I keep my eyes shut as Xaden starts to walk into the opened door with me still in his arms. I’m holding on to his shirt tightly, the pressure I apply pulling his shirt low down his chest as I brace for impact, like at any moment, I will be dropped into whatever horror this place hides. But he does not drop me. Instead, a strange current ripples through my body the moment I feel us crossing the threshold. He begins to lower me, and I force my eyes open, needing to steady myself and know my fate. The sight I’m met with steals the breath from my lungs.
