I knew the moment I saw Selene's face. Something had changed. Not suspicion. Not theory. Not another possibility to discuss and examine from every angle. Something real.
The realization hit before she even entered the room. I was standing in the training yard watching a group of warriors spar when Lucien appeared beside me.
"She's back."
That was all he said. That was all he needed to say. My stomach tightened immediately.
"Where?"
"War room."
I didn't wait for anything else. The warriors could continue without me. The reports could wait. The meetings could wait. Everything could wait. Because for the last several weeks, my entire world had been balanced on a single question. Was Elodie truly being poisoned?
