ELODIE’S POV It was too quiet, that was the first thing I noticed after we arrived. It felt lonely and abandoned, no sign that anyone was living in there and this made me wonder how he had survived here alone for all these years. No one bothered with checking on him, no one bothered to check if he was living well…no one cared. It wasn’t the size of the place that I noticed first, though it was bigger than I expected. Not the way it sat hidden between stone and forest, like it didn’t want to be found. It was the silence, there were no guards, no movements and no constant reminders of rank and hierarchy. Just… stillness. It should have felt like relief. Instead, it made me uneasy. It was something that I wasn’t use to and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to live this kind of life.
