a sleepless night

1071 Words

Nathan’s POV I didn't sleep that night. Interesting. Very interesting. Because normally I could force myself to rest. Years of war had taught me how. Sleep when you can. Prepare when you must. Survive. Simple. Unfortunately, there was nothing simple about the letter sitting on my desk. The Lost Princess. Four words. That was all. Yet somehow those four words had accomplished something armies could not. They had frightened Elodie. The realization sat heavily in my chest. Because Elodie had survived Damon. Poison. Betrayal. Imprisonment. Loss. She endured all of it. But when she read that letter, I saw something I had never seen before. Confusion. Not fear. Confusion. And confusion was far more dangerous. Because enemies could be fought. Unknown truths could not.
