### Chapter Four: The Anticipation Jessica stood in front of her mirror, her heart racing as she rummaged through her closet. She could feel the butterflies in her stomach fluttering wildly, a mix of nerves and excitement coursing through her. Today was the day she would see Ryan at the party, and the thought of being alone with him made her both anxious and thrilled. She pulled out a cute top and a pair of jeans, holding them up to her reflection. “Okay, Jessica, you’ve got this,” she whispered to herself, trying to muster some confidence. Just then, her phone buzzed on her bed. It was Ryan. **Jessica:** (answering the call) “Hey, Ryan!” **Ryan:** “Hey! Are you getting ready for the party?” **Jessica:** “Yeah, I’m just trying to figure out what to wear. I want to look nice, but I’m so nervous!” **Ryan:** “You’ll look great no matter what. Just be yourself. That’s what matters.” Jessica smiled, feeling a little more at ease. “Thanks! I just keep thinking about what it’ll be like when we’re together. What if I say something stupid?” **Ryan:** “You won’t! Just focus on having fun. We’re friends, remember? We can talk about anything.” She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. “You’re right. I just… I really want to make a good impression. I mean, it’s not every day you hang out with your crush.” **Ryan:** “Exactly! Just think of it as hanging out with a friend. But, you know, a friend you might have a crush on,” he teased, a playful tone in his voice. Jessica laughed, feeling her cheeks flush. “Okay, you’re right. I guess I’m just overthinking it. What if we end up talking about something awkward?” **Ryan:** “Awkward can be fun! Besides, if it gets awkward, we can just laugh it off. I promise I won’t judge you.” She nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “That makes me feel better. I just want to enjoy the moment and not worry too much.” **Ryan:** “Exactly! Just be you, and I’ll be me. We’ll figure it out together. Plus, I’m really looking forward to seeing you.” Jessica felt a warmth spread through her. “I’m looking forward to it too! I can’t wait to hang out.” **Ryan:** “Awesome! I’ll see you there, then. Just remember to breathe and have fun!” As they hung up, Jessica took a moment to collect herself. She looked in the mirror again, adjusting her hair and taking a deep breath. “You can do this,” she whispered, feeling a surge of excitement. With a final glance at her reflection, she felt ready to embrace whatever the night had in store. The anticipation of being with Ryan filled her with a sense of hope, and she couldn’t wait to see where the evening would lead.
