"I will marry you."
Her voice was so low he could barely make out what she said,
"can you repeat that" he asked.
She took a deep breath and this time more audibly she said, "I will marry you, sir, I will be your contract wife for the next eighteen months".
He nodded.
"very well then you have a deal but you must show up tomorrow at this address"handing her a card" By 9 am for the signing of the contract then we can start making other arrangements," he said cooly
"Excuse me, sir," she said
"Please can I get some money tomorrow after signing the contract, I have a pressing issue to sort out with it" she requested.
He looked at her for a while and said dismissively,
"It's fine you will get whatever you need after signing the contract".
"Thank you sir" she replied.
He raised an eyebrow at her and said "You would have to drop this "sir" title, you are going to be my wife remember and you can't go around calling me sir".
"What do I call you then" she asked defeated and wondering why he looked so mean and yet handsome In just his t-shirt and pant trousers.
"Brandon is fine" he answered.
"Okay Mr Brandon if that is all I would love to take my leave now," she said trying to on to the last tread of her composure.
"That okay" he replied,
As she was almost at the door he said, "Miss Nicole don't forget tomorrow by 9 am, I don't like being kept waiting"!.
She nodded, turned, and fled from the study room before he could say anything more or see her turmoil.
She walked as fast as her wobbling legs could carry her to her room, then shut the door behind her and broke down completely.
"This is not the life I want to live, life can be so unfair, I want more from life than this, I deserve more" She sobbed so hard her whole body shook.
Brandon walked out of his room and headed downstairs only to be drawn to a sound down the hall he followed the sound and found out it was Nicole's room and she was crying.
"Why is she so sad" he asked no one in particular.
"This was mostly her idea in the first place why is she like this" he thought.
For some reason he felt a thug in his heart and an overwhelming feeling of sadness, he didn't know what to make of it so he turned around and headed downstairs his heart still in conflict.
"Hey grandma do you have a minute" he asked approaching his grandma in the sitting room,
"Son I always have time for you, what's going on? She asked
He took a seat and faced his grandma he said "I have found a bride and we will be wedded soon".
She took her glasses, put them on, and gave him a serious look,
"what do you mean by that young man"? She asked.
" I am not aware of you being in any relationship let alone having a fiancee and you are talking about marriage, is marriage a joke to you? She inquired
"It is not grandma, this is serious I promise," he said
"Who is this soon-to-be bride of yours? She asked
"It's Nicole's grandma" he answered.
"Which Nicole? she asked again
"The Nicole that you know", he answered.
She looked at him shocked and asked "Our maid"?
"Not anymore Grandma she is going to be my wife! He stated
"How, When, this doesn't make sense" It's not been long since you were kicking again marriage and now you are getting married," she said
"Grandma please don't be too hard on her please" he began.
She looked at him with a little frown on her face and said "It's you am scared of she is a lovely girl with a good heart, but you have been so cold for so long I hope she helps you find the healing you need".
Then she looked at him like something just occurred to her, "Are you marrying her for the wrong reason"? She asked
"What?!! cut me some slack grandma, I know what I want and this has nothing to do with Father's will" he defended
"Okay if you say so" she replied after a few minutes of looking him in the eye and making him uncomfortable.
"If I smell a rat or suspect any fowl play, you would lose that 40percent and my trust" she warned
"Grandma I have to hurry, I have an appointment to catch up with," he said rising and giving her a peck on both cheeks before she could say anything more he was out the door and heading to his private garage.
"Excuse me Mrs Campbell the table is set," Nicole said.
looking at her there was no trace of the emotional turmoil she had been through in the last couple of hours.
"That can wait my dear please take a sit" she replied.
She did as she was told already sensing that something was not right.
"Is everything alright ma'am?" she asked after a few seconds of silence.
"I understand you are going to be the next Mrs. Campbell, is that true" she asked.
"Ye….yes ma'am" she stammered
"How long have you two been together? She asked again
"For a while now ma'am" she answered uncomfortable with where the discussion was headed.
"And you love him enough already to want to spend the rest of your life with him, do you even know him well enough? She asked
"I…I think I am okay with what I know about him at least for now" she replied, "which in her mind is absolutely nothing."
"Let me tell you a little story" Mrs Campbell started.
"Brandon has not always been like this, he changed into this grumpy, unhappy, unfeeling, bitter ambitious person when he lost his parents in a car crash some months ago"
"He became a shadow of himself and buried his grief in office work, he has been like that ever since and any woman that wants to be married to him must understand the reason he is this way" she explained
"it will take a loving and understanding heart to restore happiness to his life and that is my hope for him when he settles down so please don't be discouraged I just to make sure you are aware of what you walking into"" she stated.
"so you see my dear you know I like you a lot and I would want the best for you so I am going to ask again".
"Are you sure you want to do this? She asked
She took a calming breath and said "Yes ma I am sure".
"Very well then, you have my blessings, I hope you know what you are doing. She said
"Yes ma'am I do" she answered nervously.
"If that is all I would like to take my leave now ma'am". She asked
"Okay dear it's fine, that would be all for now" she replied
"Goodnight ma," she said headed for the door as she opened the door she bumped into a hard surface…
