Fourteen Days

A mile outside of town, Skylar and I split off from everyone else and head towards my house, so I can grab a few things I need for school the next day. We pull our bikes into the driveway before we head into the house. I don't notice that anything is off, until we get up stairs and into my bedroom, then it hits me like a ton of breaks.

"Skylar, go through that window, climb to the point above it and hide. Stay there till I come and get you, okay Skylar ?? Go now", I whisper pushing him to and then out of my window.

"What is it ??," He whispers back, as l start to slide the window shut.

"I will tell you later, just stay hid until I say so, no matter what you hear, no matter whatever happens, go." I say turning and gathering up what I can.

"Well look who has decided to grace us with her presence Big John", I hear my mother Candy's voice coming up the stairs.

"Candy, I just came to grab my stuff for school tomorrow, and then I am leaving back to dad's." I tell her as I back away the closer she gets.

"Well Big John had to bail me out again, so you have some chores to do before you go anywhere. Plus now that you're sixteen, he can get what he has been waiting so long for", she says.

"No !! I am done paying him off for you. Do it yourself," I say as confidently as possible.

"Oh is that so?? You ungrateful little witch", she says before grabbing the lamp off my bedside table and hitting me with it.

She continues hitting me with it until I hit the ground and begin to see stars, "You think you can talk to me like that, or disobey me in any way you like?? You really need to learn your place little girl," she screams at me as she punches and kicks me.

Once she feels she's put me in my place, and I'm barely conscience, she takes the cord from the lamp and wraps it around my wrist tying them together. I can almost swear I hear the faint sound of motorcycle engines rumbling off in the distance, as I feel my body being lifted and carried into the air. Then I feel my clothes being ripped off, and hear my mother telling Big John to do as he pleases with me. As I slip in and out of consciousness, I can feel Big John's hands and mouth on me. Then there's a loud crashing sound and multiple sets of footsteps. Another loud crashing sound, and then lots of scuffling, and voices.

"Raina, baby can you hear me ??", I hear my mother Zara's voice, but it sounds so far away.

".P., call the doctor and have him ready when we get there. Hurry !!", Why does she sound so far away ??

I don't know how long I have been in this darkness, when I finally hear people's voices speaking to me. They sound far away and muffled, and I can't respond from this darkness. There are times I am in nothing but this darkness, and other time's the voices come and talk to me, getting clearer each time they come.

"Raina ... I need you to fight for me okay ?? I need you to fight with everything you have, please baby sister, fight", I know that voice, but why does Kevin sound so far away ??

Just darkness.

"Raina please don't leave me, I still need my best friend. I am sorry for being such a asshole on your birthday. I will never be that stupid again. Please just come back to me," what is Luke talking about, I am stuck in this darkness and can't get out.

I would come back to you Luke, if I can figure out how the heck to get out of this darkness. I already forgave you, I try to tell him.

Just darkness.

"Hey beautiful, I'm here with you. I only leave to use the restroom and give the others some privacy to talk to you. Skylar has been hear by your side to. He won't leave for anything. I think the kid needs you to wake up soon and let him know you're going to be okay", that's Brandon.

Just darkness.

"Rain, you take all the time you need to get better okay, Sweatheart. Once you feel well enough to wake up, hell Daddy will even go longboarding with you. That's something you can hold Me to, it's a promise baby. I love you", I hear my Dad.

Just darkness.

Others come and talk to me like, Tyler, Heather, Drake, Zara, and a few others, but it's the last one to come that has me fighting with everything I have to respond.

"Rain ... I am so sorry Rain. Wake up please... I should have done something more Rain. I should have snuck back in the window and-"

" Skylar No !!" I tried to say.

"And fought to save you" he is sobbing.

"No Skylar, you did what you were supposed to do, and stayed hid and safe." I again try saying louder this time.

"I wish it was me instead, and not you Rain. Please wake up", he cry's.

" Okay, okay Sky, I'm trying hold on little brother, hold on" I tell him.

"Please Rain for me ... Just open your eyes and look at me, I still need my big sister", he sobs.

" Okay Skylar, okay" I try.

I hear an annoying sound, a door slamming.

"SKYLAR, keep talking to her, she's reacting, she is trying to wake up", I have never heard that voice before.

"Rain you can do it. You got this Rain. Just fight a little harder, your almost there. Just open your eyes Rain, please", I can hear the hope in his voice.

Okay, I don't know who I need to pay ,or kill to get out of this darkness, so I can tell My little brother that whatever happened was not his fault ... Please eye's open!!, I scream into the darkness.

Then the darkness fades into My little brothers face covered in tears, that cause tears to stream down my cheeks.

"Rain !!", He screams launching himself at me, wrapping himself around me.

"Hey there Raina. I am doctor Greener. I am going to pull the tube out of your throat okay, but try not to fight it, can you do that for me ??", He asks and I nod yes.

"Skylar, I need you to-", he is cut off.

"No !! I am not leaving her", Sky yells.

"Skylar, I am not asking you to, I just need you to lift your arm. I am sure whatever you said to get her to wake up, she wants to respond to. So I need to get the tube out so she can", he tells Sky, and I nod.

Sky looks at me and lifts his arm long enough for Dr. Greener too pull out the tube.

"Not ... Your... Fault ... No ... Be ... Dummy", I croak between breaths.

"Here take small, slow sips of this. The ice cold water should help with your throat", Dr. Greener says holding a straw up to my lips.

"I should have done something more than make a phone call to help you Rain", Sky said lowly.

"No... You safe ... Worth ... It to me", I tell him.

"You didn't even make a sound Rain. Then when she finally stopped and tied your hands with the cord... She even ripped your clothes off for that guy, and left the room so he could ... He could ...", He brakes.

It is then it hits me like a big red dump truck, 🚛 that he heard and probably saw everything. He remembers everything, while I only remember bits and pieces after Candy started beating me. Squeezing my eyes tightly shut as tears fall down my cheeks, as this realization floods me.

"I am ... So sorry Sky", I say as guilt eats me alive, that he had to go through that situation because of me.

Before he has the opportunity to respond, the door opens fallowed by the sound of my step mother Zara's voice, "Rain ... You're awake !!"

"How are you feeling sweetie ??", My father asks walking in right behind her.

Turning my head to look in the direction of their voice's, I see my other two brothers along with, Drake, Luke, and Brandon standing behind my parents. I am surprised too see Brandon. Then I wonder just how much everyone knows.

Zara pushes Skylar away from me as she starts to fuss over me, then my father says something that has all of us breathing in and holding a big breath, "Damnit Zara. Would you let me get a good look at her ... She is my daughter !!"

If looks could kill, then my father would be dead right now, "To ... She is my daughter to."

My father say trying to save his life, only for Zara to say, "Agree that we handle this later tonight."

"I agree", he says.

After everyone says hi and hug's me the doctor, who I had forgotten was here, asked everyone to leave the room so he could speak to me in private. Once everyone is out of the room Dr. Greener closes the door and sits in the chair next to my bed.

His smile is warm and comforting, matching his tone of voice, "Raina, the test's I have run show that you are anemic, did you know that ??"

I shake my head no.

"Do you know what it means ??", He asks.

I nod my head yes.

Smiling he says, "Good, we will just prescribe a pill. Also there is a lot of signs of past abuse that I believe you would benefit from talking to someone about sometime in the future once your better fiscally."

I shrug my shoulders and wince from the pain. He gives me some pain medicine through my IV, before telling me to get some rest and before he can leave I ask," Dr. Greener ... How long have I been asleep ??"

"Fourteen days, nine hours and twelve minutes is how long you have been asleep. Do you have any more questions ??", He asks.

"Not at the moment but I will let you know if I do", I smile at him as he leaves.

Laying back on my pillow and closing my eyes as I feel more tired than I ever have in my life. I am just about to drift back off when I hear the door hinge squeak as someone opens and closes it. Cracking one eye open to peek at my intruder, I smile as I see Brandon trying to sneak into the bed with me.

"You're not very stealthy", I tell him.

He lets a low, deep, sexy, chuckle,"Guess I am going to have to work on that then."

Nodding my head up and down,"For sure.... Thank you for staying here with Skylar and I. It means a lot to me."

Blinking at me he asks, "You really could hear me when you were unconscious ??"

Nodding with a yawn as my response as the medicine the Doctor gave me kicks in and I fall fast asleep,"I even heard when you sang to me and I really want to know what happens next with the gryphon rider. You know the blind one with the first female rider."

I am not even sure if I say any of that out loud before I fall out not.
