Dip Stick

When I woke in my tent the next morning, I was delightfully surprised to find Drake standing there with two plates of breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon filled the air, making my stomach growl in anticipation. Drake had a big smile on his face as he handed me a plate, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for his thoughtfulness. We sat outside in the early morning sunshine, enjoying our meal in peaceful silence. The sound of birds chirping and the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze created a serene atmosphere that was the perfect start to the day. I couldn't have asked for a better way to begin my morning in the great outdoors. Kevin emerged from his tent and made his way over to the table where we were sitting. With a smile on his face, he asked if we wanted to join him and a few others on a hike. Without hesitation, I eagerly agreed to join. I could sense Drake's hesitation as he said no, as if he really wanted to go. Luke and I found ourselves the first two ready to go for the hike, when Kevin came up and said, "Hey why don't you two go ahead and the rest of us will catch up with you guys." Luke gave him a look that could kill before asking, "What are you doing??" My oldest brother just smiled and walked away. Despite Luke's initial confusion, I shrugged it off and started our hike, excited to have some alone time with Luke before the rest of the group caught up with us. "Thank you for last night, Luke," I said to him. "I enjoyed last night. I don't think you have to thank me for something I enjoyed," he smiled back. Building up the courage to finally address what has been weighing on my mind, I take a deep breath and look directly at him. "Luke," I begin, my voice steady and bold, "why didn't you sleep with me the night of the party when I came on to you?" The question hangs in the air, heavy with anticipation and vulnerability. I can feel my heart racing as I wait for his response, unsure of what to expect but determined to finally confront the situation head-on. It takes a lot of courage to speak up and ask such a direct and personal question, but I know that I deserve to know the truth and to have closure on this lingering issue. "The first time I sleep with you, Raina, I want you sober and not get revenge for a broken heart from another guy. I want you happy and all your senses are on full alert," Luke says, backing me up against the trunk of a tree. As Luke's words wash over me, I can't help but feel a sense of relief and gratitude. His request for me to be sober and fully present in our intimate moments shows a level of respect and care that I have never experienced before. I can see the sincerity in his eyes as he speaks, and I know that he truly wants me to be happy and comfortable. The way he gently backs me up against the tree trunk makes me feel safe and cherished. At that moment, I realize that Luke was different from anyone I had ever known. He values me not just for my physical presence, but for my emotional well-being as well. "You said when you sleep with me, instead of if you sleep with me," I said out loud. He smiles and says, "That is because if is not an option. I am going to have every part of you one day, it's just a matter of when I get to have you." Then he is kissing me with such a sweet tenderness that I melt into him and the kiss. "Hey Dip-s**t, save it for the peak," Kevin's voice cut through our moment. It is then I notice that everyone is pared off into couples. Luke took my hand in his, pulling me as I followed behind him. As we finally catch up with the rest of the group, Luke's hand never leaves mine as he holds on tight, his touch sending a wave of warmth through me. We continue our ascent to the peak, the stunning view taking my breath away. The sun begins to set, casting a golden glow over the landscape, and I can't help but feel a sense of magic in the air. With each step we take, the butterflies in my stomach flutter wildly, a mix of excitement and nervousness. The anticipation of reaching the top and witnessing the beauty that awaits us fills me with an overwhelming sense of joy. As I reach the top of the peak, my eyes are immediately drawn to the mouth of a cave, beckoning me to explore its depths. The next thing that catches my attention is a fire pit, already prepared with wood and ready to be lit. Kevin takes charge and ignites the wood, creating a mesmerizing blaze that dances in the night. Luke gestures for me to join him on a nearby log, pulling me onto his lap as we settle in for the storytelling session. Each person in our group pairs off with their partner, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Kevin's voice fills the air as he begins to recount the legend of the couple of the peak's cave, weaving a tale that captivates us all. "Once upon a time, in a land of towering peaks and treacherous cliffs, there lived a group of couples who sought refuge from a great storm in the mysterious caves that dotted the highest peaks. Legend had it that these caves were enchanted, offering protection and safety to those who sought shelter within their rocky walls. As the storm raged on outside, the couples huddled together in the dimly lit caves, their hearts filled with fear and uncertainty. But as the hours passed, they began to feel a sense of peace and calm wash over them, as if the very stones of the caves were protecting them from harm. And when the storm finally passed, and they emerged from their rocky sanctuary, they knew that they had been blessed by the ancient spirits that dwelled in the peaks. From that day on, the couples spoke of their miraculous escape, and the legend of the peak caves grew, inspiring awe and wonder in all who heard their tale." Kevin finishes telling the legend behind the cave's peak just as rain drops started to fall.
