Chapter 13 SALVATORE POV Darkness swallowed the fortress. One second the room glowed gold from the fireplace. The next, nothing. No light. No sound except the ocean crashing violently outside the cliffs. Brutus growled again. Low. Deadly. Every instinct inside me sharpened instantly. I stood from the chair so fast the whiskey glass tipped sideways onto the floor. "Stay behind me," I ordered. Lena crossed her arms immediately even in the dark. "You know, normal people say thank you when someone worries about them." Despite everything happening, irritation flickered through me. Unbelievable. The woman argued with me during possible attacks.
