II There were nights when I’d wake in darkness to hear Josselyn crying out in pain. I’d rush to her side to calm her down- her sheets drenched in sweat and tears streaking her face. For a time they were so frequent that I took up to reading her fairy tales- anything to get her poor, tortured mind off of the demons that plagued her. She adored them, and our late-night stories turned to ones before she fell asleep. On those nights, her nightmares didn’t seem to invade her dreams. Eventually her cries stopped completely, and I think all three of us felt better for it.
