Abby DelaneyApart from that one afternoon she’d chatted with Kate, Abby had spent the last few days on her own. But she was used to it. Abby’s mom was never home, and if she was, there was always a boyfriend with her.
School was not too different either. Abby didn’t have many friends and spent most of her time in the library. The school librarian always asked her why she wasn’t at the school cafeteria like the rest of the kids at lunch. Abby’s response was always the same—a shrug here, a nod, or “I don’t know”.
“Do you have a boyfriend?” Mrs. Wisler had asked her one day.
Abby scowled before saying that she didn’t have time for boyfriends. Poor Mrs. Wisler must have wondered what she’d ever done wrong to have Abby Delaney in her library every single day.
