Chapter 15

Janaki's POV

I kept our door open and sat on my bed, waited for Vidhu. I was actually very hungry from all the drama.

She paused a second on the opened door and looked at me shocked. She instantly masked her face with a smile.

"Hey Janu, I thought you will stay little longer with them. Shruthy(classmate) called me to accompany her for shopping. So I went with her as I thought I would spend some time relaxing. When did you come? Why didn't you call me?"

She spoke everything even before I ask her anything. She kept the bag on the shelf and took the towel to get freshen up but waited for my reply.

Why can't you just tell me what you are doing Vidhu? I sighed.

"Just now I came ma. I think we missed our dinner time at the hostel. Come. Let's go and get something to eat. I am super hungry."

I stood up but she was having shocking expression and.. Guilty. I guess. But why?

"What Vidhu?" I asked suspiciously.

"Actually I already ate there with Shruthy. I thought you would have eaten there with our family. I am so sorry Janu." She paused "Come. Let's go and get something for you."

I felt hurt. ??

Yes.

You may think I am overreacting.

But I am not.

She never ate without me. Neither I do.

If we were at different places, we would inform about eating out. Not only that, the one who is eating outside will buy food for others. It's a simple gesture of love that telling I missed you while eating and I remembered you. But Vidhu forgot about me today.

I wonder, is this what love does to a person? Will it make you forget everything else?

Really?

Love?

Evening her brother forgot her parents visit!

Now here she forgot our lifetime habit!

I don't feel hungry any longer. I felt like a stranger to her. I smiled at her trying not to show any of my emotions.

"It's okay ma. I had some snacks there. I totally forgot that we have IT test tomorrow. Let me study. I brought some snacks and kept it in the container on the shelf for you. Go and freshen up, lazy woman. We have to study."

"But you said you are super hungry? Please don't show your anger on food. I am really sorry. Come. Let's go. "

"I just said that to hurry up you. I am really not feeling to eat. Let me study now. "

I walked to the shelf to get my books, notes and pen to start studying. She stood there for a whole minute looking at me with a sad expression. I ignored her look and started turning the pages. I heard her sigh and the bathroom door opening and closing.

For the namesake, I looked at the book with a lot of things running in my head. I really need to revise this chapter for tomorrow's test. But my mind is not clear and I am not able to read a line.

She is sitting silently to my opposite in her bed. I decided to sleep. I kept everything in its place and lie down showing my back to her with a simple 'Goodnight'.

My devil alarm rang at 5.45 AM. I woke up with a feel of someone hitting my head using a hammer from inside. This is the consequences of sleeping with an empty stomach. My eyes were also aching. I cursed myself for betraying my stomach last night.

Moral learnt: Don't miss your food for any damn thing.

I laughed at my monologue. Me and my food craze!

"Seems like someone had a nice dream?"

Vidhu appeared from the door with coffee flask, a pack of 'good day' biscuits and some chips packets. I smiled like a crazy person at her. This is why I love her a lotttttttt. She knew exactly what I want.

"Hey hiiiiii! From when did my cousin learn to wake up early? Give me a minute. I will brush my teeth and come. I got a little bit hungry as you are appearing in front of me with all these foods."

She laughed at me as she knew my little bit hungry. I finished my morning routine and had a nice hot coffee with biscuits. It subsidized my headache and I felt a lot energetic now. I thanked her for the coffee and snacks. Then we started to get ready for our classes.

Vidhu and me were in Nungambakkam (An area in Chennai). We came here to submit our exam forms in the ICAI. We decided to relax a bit before going back to the hostel. I have to say it's our bad luck because we ran into Nandhini in one of the nearby cafes. She was having some drink with a middle-aged man. She noticed us while entering the shop. We just smiled at her and settled in a table far away from her.

I know Vidhu will behave herself as Prabhu mama is having positive vibes for her. But I knew that I could not expect the same from Nandhini. Nandhini smirked and made her way towards us.

Damn that woman!

Vidhu let out a long breath clearly stating her annoyance.

"Hey girls! How have you been? Prabhu told you are staying in T-Nagar. What are you two doing in the fancy place like this? "

I could clearly notice the sarcasm in her tone. Before Vidhu starts to explode I have to answer her.

"Hello Nandhini. How are you? We are fine. And we came here to submit our exam forms in ICAI. So just stopped here for refreshment. "

"Oh.. fine... fine girls." The man accompanying her came near her and looked us from top to bottom. He kept his hand on her waist and pressed her to his body. Ewwwwww... Hopefully, Vidhu didn't notice it.

"We are not GIRLS! Will you.."

Vidhu blasted. But Nandhini smirked. This is no good.

"Hmm... Sorry for her temper Nandhini. Actually, we don't like someone calling us girls as we are grown-ups. And I think we have to go. See you soon. Bye"

"Janu, you need not.."

Vidhu started again but I cut it off.

"Vidhuuu. Let's go"

I practically dragged her from the cafe.

We boarded the train. She somehow managed to stay silent until we reach our hostel.

"Are you afraid of that b***h? Can't you see how she humiliated us? And She is also roaming with someone. She is playing with Anna's life Janu. How do you expect me to keep quiet?"

"Chill out dear. I'm not afraid of her. I'm just cautious not to arise any conflicts with our family. If we say this incident to our moms', do you think they will support us? No way. They are oblivious of her character. Maybe her anger is just on us. And Prabhu mama seems to like her very much. Yesterday, he totally forgot athai and mama while speaking on the phone with Nandhini. He's changing."

I almost shouted to make these facts reach her brain. Her expression changed.

"We can't do anything in haste. We lived together all these years. We should not bring any disagreements in our family. So please control your temper and think before doing anything. And that person may be just her friend. So don't exaggerate this issue. I never have seen Prabhu mama like this. We can't break his heart if he had developed any feelings towards her. We have to be very careful Vidhu ma. Please understand and cooperate. "

Her face showed fear and shock.

"Janu, do you think he loves her? What if she separates him from us? Or brainwash him against us? I could not afford to lose him Janu. Neither my parents."

I too had the same fear. But I couldn't tell her that. She might freak out.

She looked at me processing everything I told her and nodded her head. She sat near me and leaned her head over my shoulder. I patted her with a sigh.

I have to talk to Nandhini privately. I need to know what's going on in her mind.
