Jack sighed as he unpacked. At long last he was finally beginning his training. He had presented his field guiding log book to the administrator after completing the section where he pledged to follow the code of conduct and guiding principles of the organization. His first entry was made in Banff. Jack had been able to get a park ranger to monitor as he demonstrated his ability to track and observe big game species native to the park. Ranger Robin Schaffer completed the section and commented that ‘Jack Bisson showed considerable knowledge and skill. He had been able to track and observe a cougar, an animal known for stealth and aversion to human contact. In addition, Jack was able to distinguish between black and grizzly bear signs.’
