Chapter 15
It had been three days sitting beside Willem with little sleep or nutrition. He held Willem’s hand and dozed off from sheer exhaustion. A gentle hand on his shoulder startled him awake. Turning, he took a deep inhale to see his father’s tired but smiling face. Jack quickly got up and wrapped Carl in a hug while he cried on his shoulder. He never thought to ask what his father was doing here or ask who the stranger was that stood back and watched. He let his grief and fear spill out onto his father in his tears.
He was about to speak when they heard a moan from the bed. Jack turned to see Willem’s eyes flutter and open slightly. He immediately called for assistance. A team hurried into the room and the three men were urged to wait outside. Finally, Jack looked from the stranger
