Chapter 10

1154 Words
Evie POV Three days later… I sat up from the bed feeling like my whole body had been wrecked by a thousand different military wolves. Every muscle ached. My thighs burned. My core throbbed with a deep, satisfied soreness that made me wince when I shifted. I had never felt like this even when I pushed myself to the bone in Thornwall Pack. After spending Nyx’s rut with him, I felt like I had just crawled out of hell itself. Dragging my weak and broken body to the bathroom, I looked at myself in the mirror. My neck was covered in dark bite marks and hickeys. My n*****s were swollen and sensitive, still tinged red from his mouth. Bruises in the shape of fingerprints decorated my hips and thighs. I cursed under my breath, tracing one particularly dark mark on my collarbone. Ashra chuckled inside me, her voice smug and satisfied. *Her mate is a real man. Strong. Virile. He f****d us so thoroughly we can barely walk. Be grateful.* I rolled my eyes at my own reflection. “Grateful? He nearly split me in half for three straight days. I feel like I’ve been ridden by a damn stallion.” *And you loved every second of it,* Ashra shot back, purring. *Don’t lie to me. I was there. You begged for his knot more than once. Called him yours while you came around him.* “Shut up,” I muttered, splashing cold water on my face. “It was the rut. Biology. Nothing more.” *Keep telling yourself that,* she said with a wicked laugh. *But your body knows the truth. You crave him already.* I ignored her and took a long, satisfying shower. The hot water eased some of the soreness in my muscles, but the marks on my skin remained. Nyx had been relentless. He had f****d me in every position imaginable — on the bed, against the wall, bent over the bathroom counter. His knot had locked inside me multiple times, pumping me full until I felt swollen with his c*m. I had come so many times I lost count. My hellfire had flared wildly during the peaks, but he never pulled away. If anything, he seemed to crave the burn. I walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel and opened the massive closet. It was already filled with new clothes — elegant dresses, luxurious fabrics, and some practical pieces that looked like they had been chosen with me in mind. I picked a simple black top and black jeans, along with my favorite combat boots. Comfort over elegance. I wasn’t here to play queen. Not yet. I stepped out of the room and immediately noticed something was strange. Mr. Wayne, the head butler, saw me and looked like he had seen a ghost. He stopped mid-step,his eyes went wide, even his mouth flew open. I just stood there and asked, “Where is Elena? Can you tell her to get me some food? I’m hungry.” Mr. Wayne didn’t answer. He rubbed his eyes as if they were deceiving him. I cursed under my breath. Stupid people. So f*****g stupid. I walked away without waiting for a response. But the maids and guards kept staring at me. Whispers followed in my wake. I suddenly felt like a celebrity — or a miracle. Everyone who passed me did a double take. Some looked terrified while others looked awed. I headed straight to the throne room because I faintly overheard Nyx mention a meeting with the elders this morning. By pack culture, I was supposed to meet them today as the new queen. The moment I pushed the heavy throne room doors open, the entire place fell silent. So silent that if a pin dropped, you would hear it echo. I was really surprised to find everyone looking at me like that. Then I remembered — I was supposed to be dead. Any mate who got knotted by Nyx died the next day. But I had spent three whole days with that arrogant bastard and come out perfectly alive. I didn’t even try to acknowledge them. I walked straight to the front and sat down in the chair beside Nyx. He glanced at me, his silver eyes darkening with something possessive and heated. I looked at the gathered elders and then at my father. Isaac Throne sat near the end of the table. He didn’t look so well. His face was pale, eyes sunken and he's shoulders slumped. The death of his wife and daughter had finally gotten to him. The hatred in his eyes was impossible to miss as he kept murmuring under his breath, “Impossible… impossible…” I tore my gaze away from him and calmly greeted the elders. “Good morning.” Then I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through it, ignoring the heavy silence. That seemed to set my father off. “You disrespectful little b***h!” Isaac exploded, slamming his hand on the table. “After everything you’ve done — killing your own family — you sit here like you belong? You should be dead! The curse should have taken you!” The elders shifted uncomfortably. Nyx’s aura flared dangerously, but he didn’t speak yet. He watched me with dark interest. I looked up from my phone slowly. “I survived because I’m not weak like the others you sold me to die with. Maybe the Moon Goddess finally decided your precious fated mate wasn’t worth protecting anymore.” Isaac’s face turned purple with rage. “You monster! You burned them alive! My Liliana… my Clara…” “And you stood by while your mate murdered my mother,” I said coldly. “We’re even now.” The tension in the room was thick enough to choke on. One of the elders cleared his throat, trying to regain control of the meeting. “The queen has… survived the claiming. This is unprecedented. We must discuss what this means for the curse and the bloodline.” Nyx finally spoke, his voice low and commanding. “It means my queen is stronger than any of you expected. The curse is weakening. She will give me an heir.” Isaac laughed bitterly. “Or she’ll burn the entire kingdom down with her.” I smiled at him. “Careful, Father. I still have plenty of fire left.” The meeting dragged on after that, filled with political talk about alliances, the recent rogue attacks, and how my survival changed the power balance. I mostly stayed quiet, answering only when directly asked. My body still ached in the best and worst ways. Ashra was smug in my head. *See.. Mate stood up for us in front of this old hag.* *Shut up,* I told her again. But I couldn’t deny the low heat that still simmered in my belly whenever Nyx looked at me.
