Nyx POV
I stormed back to my private chambers, the heavy doors slamming shut behind me with enough force to rattle the frames. My c**k was rock hard again, I stripped off my suit jacket and tossed it aside, then yanked the shirt over my head. The fabric caught on my shoulders before tearing free. My pants followed, kicked off with impatient movements.
I needed a release. Very badly.
I walked into the bathroom, the black marble cool under my bare feet. The large mirror reflected my body back at me — scarred, muscled, runes glowing faintly along my arms and chest. My hand wrapped around my thick length, stroking slowly from base to tip. A rough exhale escaped me. It wasn’t enough. It would never be enough after having Evie’s tight, scorching p***y wrapped around me.
I leaned one hand against the mirror, the other pumping my c**k with rough, fast strokes. I closed my eyes and pictured her — the way her full breasts had bounced when I f****d her from behind, the way her p***y had clenched around my knot, the way she had moaned my name like a curse and a prayer. “f**k, Evie,” I growled, twisting my hand over the head, smearing the pre-c*m that leaked steadily. I imagined her on her knees, those golden eyes looking up at me as she took me down her throat. I imagined her riding me, hellfire dancing across her skin while her tight cunt milked my knot.
My strokes grew faster, almost punishing. The sound of skin on skin filled the bathroom. My balls tightened. I was close already. If I wasn’t married, I would have f****d a maid by now — bent one over the nearest surface and emptied my balls into her willing body. But now that I was married, that option was gone. Mission failed. The thought only made me stroke harder.
I came with a low, guttural groan, thick ropes of c*m splashing against the mirror and dripping down my hand. It wasn’t enough but It took the edge off. I stepped into the shower, turning the water as hot as it would go. The steam filled the space quickly. I washed the evidence of my release off my body, but my mind kept drifting back to Evie. She's one hell of a person, even when I ran an investigation about her their some part that are still missing.
Vesper stirred as I stepped out of the shower, his presence pushing forward until my reflection in the mirror showed his eyes — glowing red instead of silver.
*She protected us today,* he said, voice deep and serious. *Our mate fought when we couldn’t be there. She is strong and very worthy.*
I grabbed a towel and dried off roughly. “She nearly got herself killed. Again. I told her to rest.”
*She is not a weak queen like the others,* Vesper growled. *The attack was orchestrated from within the capital. One of the lesser nobles carried the scent of silver powder. Interrogate the prisoners thoroughly. But mark my words—the hybrid’s survival makes her a greater target. They will strike at her to break you.*
I stared at my reflection — at him. “You think I don’t know that? The curse is getting worse. If I don’t get her pregnant soon, it will consume me. And now someone is actively trying to kill her meaning one thing, someone wants me dead to take my throne I guess”
Vesper’s presence pressed heavier. *The hybrid blood may be the key. Her fire burned the assassins. She survived three days of our rut. She is different. But she is also reckless. We must protect her. Even from herself.*
I tossed the towel aside and pulled on a pair of black pants. “She doesn’t trust me to protect her. She said it herself. She learned to fight alone when no one saved her as a child.”
*Then make her trust us,* Vesper said. *Do anything she wants, am sure there's somewhere in her heart that needs healing. She was abandoned as a child and was tortured. We both know that a child who was abandoned in Thornwall Pack isn't going to trust someone else that easily. It takes time. Do something dude*
One of my generals’ voices came through mind link and he sounded very urgent.
*Your Majesty. We have new information from the southern borders. The rogues who attacked Asheville Pack are moving again, and they have help from inside our own ranks. One of the captured assassins broke. He named a noble from the eastern territories.*
I cursed under my breath. The timing was too perfect. Someone was playing a long game — trying to kill Evie, weaken me, and destabilize the kingdom all at once.
Vesper growled. *Find them. Kill them. Protect our mate.*
I dressed quickly in a fresh black shirt and boots. I walked out of my chambers and headed toward the war room. Darius was already waiting, maps spread across the table.
“The assassin gave us a name,” he said immediately. “Lord Varen of the eastern territories. He has connections to your father-in-law’s old allies.”
I slammed my fist on the table. “Bring him in. Alive. I want to question him myself.”
