Chapter 19

Evie POV I had finished dinner alone in the grand dining hall after Nyx stormed out like a thundercloud with legs. Servants cleared the plates silently, shooting me curious glances they thought I didn't notice. I pushed back my chair and headed back to my room, but I couldn't understand why he'd been so angry. The whole way back, his aura had been heavy and dark, like a storm cloud ready to burst. I replayed the conversation in my head. I had answered his questions honestly. What was there to be mad about? Hold on... Was he jealous??? The thought hit me so suddenly I burst out laughing right there in the middle of my room. Nyx Calder, the cursed Lycan King who had buried three wives, jealous because I mentioned surviving in Thornwall? Ashra snickered in my head. *He's sulking. Big bad king can't handle a hybrid with a past.* The idea was ridiculous. Ridiculous, but a little cute. I wiped a tear from the corner of my eye, still chuckling as I climbed into bed, pulling the silk sheets up to my chin. The room was quiet, the lights dimmed to a soft glow. Rest. That was the plan. No more kings, just a blessed beautiful sleep. Just as I was about to drift off, I heard a noise at the door. Someone was trying to open it. I sat up, instantly alert and threw the covers off, yanking the door open with more force than necessary. I came face to face with Nyx. I raised an eyebrow at him, arms crossing over my chest. He said nothing and just walked inside like he owned the place. Well, it was my room now, technically, but the man had a habit of blurring lines. "What do you want?" I asked, keeping my voice neutral. No point poking the bear when he already looked half-feral. Nyx said nothing and started undoing the buttons of his shirt, revealing the hard planes of his chest and the ancient runes tattooed across his skin, the fabric sliding off his shoulders with deliberate slowness. "Are you sleeping here?" I asked again. "Yeah," he replied, cutting me off. "This is my wife's room, so why can't I sleep here?" I scoffed. "Well, Your Majesty, the last time you slept in my room, it took me a while to get up from bed. And it happened this morning because you were here last night, even two days ago. You slept here for three days. Did you forget?" He paused for a second, then shrugged. "So you're saying I should leave then?" I didn't have an answer to that. Part of me wanted to push him out just to prove a point, but another part liked watching him claim space in my room. He completely ignored me and walked into the bathroom, the door clicking shut behind him. I just stood there, staring at the closed door. I perceived the faint scent of blood on him. He wasn't wounded, which meant he'd hurt someone. Probably those assassins. But how was that my business? I wasn't his keeper. I wasn't even sure what we were beyond this forced marriage and the insane chemistry that kept pulling us together. Still, the king venting in the dungeons didn't exactly scream healthy communication. I climbed into bed and pulled the covers tightly around myself, trying to push away the memories of him away from my mind. Ashra nudged my mind. *He's wound up. This should be entertaining.* The bathroom door opened a few minutes later. Nyx came out wearing only black pants that hung low on his hips, water droplets still clinging to his broad chest and shoulders. He looked like sin walking. He moved with that predatory grace, the bed dipping as he slid in beside me. For a moment, he just lay there. I kept my eyes closed, pretending to be half-asleep, but my body was hyper-aware of his warmth. Then his hand moved — resting on my hip over the covers at first, before slipping beneath them, tracing bare skin, warm and calloused and possessive. "Still mad?" I muttered, half-teasing. He didn't answer with words. His hand slid lower, fingers brushing my thigh until they found me already wet. He pushed my panties aside and stroked along my folds before sliding two thick fingers inside me without warning, pumping slowly at first, then faster before going rough and possessive. I gasped,as my hips rocked against his hand despite myself. He curled his fingers, hitting that spot deep inside me that made my toes curl, his thumb finding my c**t and rubbing tight circles while his fingers f****d me under the covers, the wet sounds barely muffled by the silk sheets. "Ny-Nyx..." I whispered. He leaned in close, breath hot against my ear. "So wet for me already. Even when you're being difficult." I reached down and gripped his wrist — not to stop him, but to urge him deeper. The pressure built fast, coiling tight. My thighs trembled, toes curling as I neared the edge. Just as I was about to come, he pulled his fingers free. A frustrated whine tore from my throat. "What the—" Nyx brought his glistening fingers to his mouth and licked them clean, eyes never leaving mine. "That was your punishment for making me mad earlier," he said with a rough and smug look on his face. "Now beg me if you want to come." I stared at him,my chest heaving. The audacity. Turned on and frustrated, while the king lounged there like he hadn't just edged me under the covers like it was casual dinner conversation. A laugh bubbled up despite the ache. "You absolute bastard. You storm out at dinner over nothing, come back smelling like blood, finger me like it's your job, and now you want begging? Did you dump your mind in trash bin or something?" He smirked, dangerously attractive in the low light, his hand resting possessively on my thigh but not moving. "Beg me little queen. Or stay frustrated all night." Ashra was laughing in my head now too. *Prideful wolf. Make him work for it.* I swallowed my pride and rolled toward him. "Fine. But only because I'm tired of arguing." My voice dropped. "Please, Your Majesty. Finish what you started." Nyx's eyes darkened with satisfaction. He didn't make me wait this time. His hand slid back between my thighs, fingers thrusting deep and rough again, thumb working my c**t with expert precision. The pleasure crashed back faster, stronger. I buried my face in his shoulder and came hard, shattering around him, moaning his name as the orgasm crashed through me. He held me through it, murmuring against my hair. "Good girl." The room fell quiet except for our breathing. Nyx pulled me against his chest, his hard c**k pressing against my ass through his pants, his arm wrapped around me possessively. "Jealous king," I whispered eventually, half-muffled against him. "Not jealous," he rumbled, but the way he tightened his hold said otherwise. "Just reminding you who you belong to." I smiled into the dark. Misunderstandings and all, this complicated mess of a bond was starting to feel like home. "Sleep," he murmured against my hair. "You don't need me losing the last control i have over my body if you keep looking at me like that" I closed my eyes, but opened them again. “ What if I don't to sleep? ”
