Since Kola returned to the city, he became constant in Zara’s life. He often visited as they continued to relive their childhood memories together.
He walked her home on some evenings, told her his dramatic stories that made her laugh, and shared their favorite meals. Slowly love found its way back .
One evening , during one of their usual nights out, Zara gathered the courage to confess her feelings to Kola..
“ I used to like you in school,” she blurted out.
Kola looked at her …
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner”? He asked softly.
In that moment Zara didn’t know what or how to respond. There were so many answers in her head but none made sense at the moment…. “I guess… Life has its own plan,” was all she could finally say .
Kola smiled and took her hands. He cupped her cheeks gently with his other hand.
“Zara Iremide Williams,” he said.
“I liked you too and I still do. I just didn’t think we were ready back then.
He took a deep breath and said,“ That’s one of their reasons I came back, because I prayed for another chance to express how I feel."
Zara looked surprised. Surely she didn’t expect this to be so easy, but the feelings were mutual and that was the most important thing for her.
“I love you Zara,” Kola muttered.
“ I have and i will always love you.”
“I love you too, Kola,” she said, forcing a smile. “Well, I’ll love you till my lungs give up,“ she added.
