Somehow, after nearly falling flat on his face on the unsteady floor a few times, Joseph sees some light streaming into the otherwise dark chamber. His eyes brighten with joy and he rushes (stumbles) towards it. Getting there, he finds that it is an exit.
He walks out without hesitation and the first thing he notices is how cold it was. It was currently spring so it could be quite chilly sometimes but as soon as he stepped out of that cave, the temperature dropped so low that it felt like winter.
