The stairwell is dark with nary a sliver of light passing through safe for the single beam of light from the electric torch the person in front is holding. They walk down the long and narrow flight of stone steps which at the bottom opens up into a gigantic room.
The room is equally as dark as the stairwell and the only source of light comes from the few lit torches placed on walls few and far between. However, this sparse lighting which illuminated a few places while leaving others in utter darkness only serves to make the place look even more terrifying.
The walls are made of stone which are wet in places where water drips into the room from somewhere. If one were to look up, they would notice that the ceiling was so high up that they would be unable to even see it.
