The rest of the day quickly went by as Lily attends all her classes. The last class of the day was a topic under financial accounting. The teacher, Mrs Anna asked the class to do an assignment and submit it the next day. the bell went off as soon as she was done talking.
Mrs Anna left the class, followed by some students who were already prepared before the class ended. Lily and some other students stayed to arrange their stuff before leaving.
Lily was almost done with her arrangement when a notebook was thrown to her desk. she knew that the notebook wasn't hers, so she looked up to see who threw it to her.
Her gaze lands on pinky who has a smirk on her face. Lily looked at the book then at pinky.
pinky strode towards her with a lollipop in her hand. "hello nerd, I want this assignment done by you", pinky commanded as if Lily was her slave.
"But I also have mine to do, why don't you do it yourself?", Lily said. pinky reached out and grabbed her hair making her scream in Pain. "look nerd,I really don't have the time and energy to waste on you, now be a good girl and do what I told you to", pinky whispered to her.
she released lily's hair and walked out of the class. Lily stared at the notebook with anger. she felt like tearing it to pieces to vent her anger but she couldn't. she doesn't want her life to be a living hell than it was already.
she walks out of the classroom and heads down the corridor as she exit the building. people buzzed by but she continued in her step, ignoring any stare or gossip about her. she knew her family background made her an outcast among the other students. she didn't belong here.
FLASHBACK
Lily stared at the brown envelope in her hand. she stared at her principal who had handed the envelope to her. "what is this ma?",she asked in a small voice as she knew she wasn't expecting anything that day.
The principal smiled at her as she pulled Lily into a hug. "congratulations dear, you just gained admission into light west university",she said. Lily pulled away from her in shock as she thought she heard wrong.
"ma, please if this is a joke, stop it, it's not funny", Lily said as she tried to contain herself thinking it was a joke. "am not joking, why don't you open the envelope",the principal told her.
Lily quickly opened the envelope and ready the content that was inside, and really she gained admission into light west university, one of the most prestigious university in New York. she had dreamed of gaining admission there so as to further her education and who knew that it was going to become a reality.
Lily jumped up in Joy as she hugged her principal expressing how happy she was. she couldn't contain herself as she jumped around the principal. "calm down, dear, I know you are happy and it's a good thing but be careful",she said.
"yes ma, I am so happy. thank you so much for all your support, for all your care and love", Lily thanked as she broke down in tears as she had given up on ever gaining admission into the university.
Lily was on cloud nine even after leaving the principal's office. school was already over so she heads home direct, ready to celebrate the good news with her family.
But her excitement was cut short when her mom tore the acceptance letter after reading it. Lily was shocked by her mother's action. "mom, why did you tear it?",she questioned but her Mom shut her up.
"I don't know why you are wasting your time on something useless when we all know that you are just gonna end up in the kitchen", Elizabeth said harshly.
"mom, why do you always tell me that nonsense", Lily asked her mom angerly. her mother walked towards her and before Lily could process what was happening, her mom slapped her across the face. "don't you dare question me. I have already wasted enough money on your stupid education nonsense but not anymore", Elizabeth yelled at her making her take a step backwards.
"why do you always favor my brother over me?,you paid for his education but he couldn't even graduate but me, I graduated with flying colors and I gained admission into one of the best universities while your son just drink and rot away", Lily shouted back.
lizabeth stared at her daughter as she continued, "you always take away my savings and hand it over to him all in the name of helping him but he just wastes it on ahcohols and gamble it away. am I not your child?", Lily questioned as tears were already falling From her eyes but Elizabeth hissed at her.
"yes, maybe you are not my child because you have always been a burden rather than a child", Elizabeth said as she turned to leave Lily who broke down after hearing her mother's word.
