“Who ate my meat pie?!”
Daniela turned around.
The whole corridor had suddenly become a crime scene.
A boy stood in the middle of the hallway, staring at everyone like he was about to start an investigation.
“My meat pie was inside my bag!” he shouted. “I kept it there during assembly!”
A girl nearby laughed.
“Maybe the meat pie walked away.”
“This is not funny!”
Daniela couldn't help laughing.
She looked at Amara.
“This school has serious problems.”
Amara nodded.
“You're just discovering.”
The boy suddenly pointed at someone.
“You!”
Everybody turned.
A smaller boy froze.
“Me?”
“Yes, you!”
“Why?”
“You were standing near my bag!”
The boy's eyes widened.
“Guy, I was looking for my mathematics textbook!”
“Then where is my meat pie?”
“How should I know?”
The argument continued.
Daniela shook her head and started walking away.
“Come on,” Amara said. “Before they start fighting over pastry.”
They walked towards the classroom, laughing.
For the first time since arriving at Danso High, Daniela almost forgot about the strange messages.
Almost.
She reached into her pocket to check her phone.
Nothing.
No new messages.
She sighed with relief.
Maybe whoever had been threatening her had finally stopped.
Or maybe they were waiting.
Daniela quickly pushed the thought away.
She wasn't going to spend her whole day being scared.
As soon as she entered the classroom, she noticed Daniel sitting at his desk.
He looked up.
“You guys took forever.”
Amara dropped her books on the desk.
“Someone's meat pie disappeared.”
Daniel laughed.
“Again?”
Daniela looked at him.
“Again?”
“You'll learn soon. Food disappearing here is basically a school tradition.”
Daniela laughed.
“That's actually terrible.”
Daniel leaned closer.
“So, are you okay?”
Daniela knew what he meant.
The messages.
She nodded.
“Yeah. I haven't gotten another one.”
“Good.”
Before they could continue, someone suddenly rushed into the classroom.
“Guys!”
Everyone turned.
“What?”
“The principal is coming!”
The class went silent.
Someone immediately jumped off a desk.
Another person shoved a packet of snacks into their bag.
Daniela looked confused.
“Why is everybody scared?”
Amara whispered, “Because nobody knows why he's coming.”
A few seconds later, the principal walked in.
Everyone sat up straight.
“Good afternoon, students.”
“Good afternoon, sir.”
He looked around the classroom.
“I have received a report concerning an incident that happened during break.”
The class became quiet.
Daniela looked at Amara.
“What incident?”
Amara shrugged.
The principal continued.
“A student's phone has gone missing.”
Everyone immediately started whispering.
The principal raised his hand.
“Silence.”
The room became quiet again.
“We will be checking bags.”
Daniela's eyes widened.
Bags?
Her phone was inside hers.
That wasn't the problem.
The problem was the strange messages.
What if the person who sent them was in this classroom?
She suddenly felt nervous.
Teachers began checking the students' bags one by one.
Daniel watched Daniela.
“You okay?”
“Yeah.”
But she wasn't.
Not completely.
A teacher reached Daniela's desk.
“Open your bag.”
Daniel slowly looked at her.
Daniela opened it.
Books.
Pencils.
A water bottle.
Nothing suspicious.
The teacher moved on.
Daniela let out a breath.
Then she noticed something.
A small folded piece of paper was lying inside her bag.
She was sure it hadn't been there before.
She quickly picked it up.
“What's that?” Amara whispered.
“I don't know.”
Daniela unfolded it under the desk.
There were only five words written on it.
“You should stop asking questions.”
Her heart dropped.
She quickly folded the paper again.
Someone had put it inside her bag.
Someone had been close enough to touch her things.
She looked around the classroom.
Everyone seemed normal.
Some students were talking quietly.
Some were watching the teachers.
Daniel was looking at her.
Amara was staring at the paper.
Nobody else seemed to notice.
Daniela whispered, “Someone put this in my bag.”
Amara's face changed.
“Are you serious?”
Daniela nodded.
Daniel looked at them.
“What happened?”
Daniela showed him.
He read it twice.
“This is getting weird.”
“That's what I've been saying,” Daniela whispered.
Daniel looked around the classroom.
“Did you see anyone near your bag?”
“No.”
“Think.”
Daniela tried.
Then she remembered.
Before the principal entered, a girl had walked past her desk.
A girl with long braids.
Zara.
Daniela looked towards her.
Zara was sitting quietly at the other side of the classroom.
Their eyes met.
For one second, neither of them moved.
Then Zara looked away.
Daniela's heart started beating faster.
Could it be her?
“Daniela?” Daniel whispered.
She didn't answer.
“Daniela.”
“What?”
“You're staring.”
“I know.”
“At who?”
Daniela looked at Zara again.
“I think I know who might be doing this.”
Daniel and Amara followed her gaze.
Zara was laughing with another girl.
Amara frowned.
“Zara?”
Daniela nodded.
“But why would she threaten you?”
“I don't know.”
“Then don't accuse her yet,” Daniel said.
Daniela sighed.
“I know.”
The principal finally left.
The class immediately became noisy again.
Daniela packed her things.
She wanted answers.
But she also knew she had to be careful.
As everyone began leaving, Daniela noticed something on her desk.
Her phone vibrated.
She looked down.
Unknown Number:
“Good job.”
Daniela froze.
A second message appeared.
“You noticed her.”
Daniela slowly looked up.
Across the classroom, Zara was standing by the door.
And she was looking directly at her.
Daniela's stomach twisted.
Zara smiled.
Then she walked away.
Daniela stood there, completely confused.
She looked at Amara.
“What just happened?”
Amara shook her head.
“I honestly don't know.”
Daniel walked over.
“What's wrong?”
Daniela showed him the messages.
He stared at the screen.
“Okay.”
He looked towards the door.
“We need to find out what's going on.”
Daniela nodded.
For the first time, she wasn't just curious anymore.
She was determined.
Because whoever was behind the messages knew what she was doing.
They knew who she was talking to.
And somehow...
They always seemed to be one step ahead.
Daniela picked up her bag.
“Tomorrow,” she said quietly, “we're finding out the truth.”
Amara smiled nervously.
“Hopefully without another missing meat pie.”
Daniel laughed.
Daniela smiled.
But deep down, she knew this wasn't funny anymore.
Danso High had more wahala than she ever imagined.
And this time, the wahala was following her.
