Chapter six: Calling

Grant POV

I stepped out of the room, not wanting to leave her, but knowing I had to take the call. I've been ignoring his call for hours waiting for my mate to wake up. Mate, I smiled to myself. I never thought I would have one now, she here, and I'm never letting her go. I answered my phone

"What do you want?" I say annoyed, wanting to get back to my mate.

"Hello to you too, sir," my second in command said to me sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and said again, "What do you want?"

"You've been gone for hours. How long does it take to talk to one human? Did she say anything?" He asks

I growl because I didn't like his tone when he talked about my Amiela. He will have to respect her. She will be the one by my side. She'll help lead the pack. I guess it is a good time as anyone to tell him she is my mate, but I don't want to do it over the phone. He is my second in command, and I trust him he likes a brother to me.

"Come to the hospital. I don't want to talk over the phone." I said

"Why not come back to the pack our territory?" He asks, confused

"I have my reason, and you have your orders. So get here as soon as possible." I say in a commanding tone. Telling him no to question me.

"Be there in 30." He said before hanging up. I'm going to stay in this hospital for as long as my mate in this hospital, especially with her being endanger. I can't wait to find the beast that attacked her. I'm going to put his head on a spike.

My second in command, Varge, show up within the hour.

"What's so important you couldn't tell me over the phone?" He asks

So I told him in detail what happened.

"It has to be a trick. You can be serious." He said outrageous.

"It's true, she's my mate." I said

He looked at me disgusted.

"It has to be a trick orchestrated by the witches. Are we sure she's not a witch?" He said in a hush tone.

"She is not a witch. I would have smelled the power on her." I said and then added,"She is fully human."

"Impossible the curse clearly states..." He started, but I cut him off.

"I know what the curse said, and that what I want you to look into the curse see if we missed anything that would give me answer to why I have a mate and why she human?" I ask

"What are you going to do?" He asks

"What do you mean I'm gonna find the monster who attacked my mate." I said matter of factly.

"No, I mean, what are you going to do about your mate? You can't seriously think about accepting her." He said in shock.

"Why wouldn't I accept her as my mate?"

I ask with equal shock with a little bit of anger.

"Because it's unnatural." He yelling now.

I've got him against the wall now. How dare he disrespect me and my mate like that.

"There are a bunch of orc women in the pack. Why not go for one of them?" He said, not fighting against my grip.

"Because I would be robbing them of a chance to meet their mates, and now that I found my mate. I couldn't imagine living without her, and I couldn't do that to a poor orc who hasn't found their mate yet." I said, finally understanding the mate bond myself. I never got it before being completely motivated to someone, not until now. It would have been cruel. I've always thought that, but now I know how cruel it would have been to rob a person of their true mate. Thinking about Amiela not being in my life cause me great pain. I'll do whatever it takes to keep Amiela in my life forever. Maybe that's why I never mated with anyone yet because deep down I was waiting for my true mate even though I'm not supposed to. The gods are smiling down on me and as blessed me with a mate. Finally, I released Varge, and he fell to the ground.

"You have your orders, whether you like it or not. I expect you to follow them." I say in a deadly tone and then added, "I look at you as a brother but disrespect me and my mate again you'll live to regret it."

His eyes widened, then nodded "Yes sir." his all he said as he walked out of the hospital with a sense of urgency. Varge knew he messed up, saying disrespectful things about my mate. If he were any other person, I would have cut his tongue out so he couldn't say anything bad about my mate again. But he was my second in command, so I gave him a warning. Plus, Varge doesn't understand he hasn't met his mate yet, so he can't even begin to understand the mate bond. Now that was settled, it was time for me

I have to get back to my Amiela, my mate. I smiled to myself, thinking I have a mate it unreal. I can't believe it. Later I'm gonna have to go next door to the library. I am sure there are some books on human mating ritual. I have to go slow. I can't do anything that might frighten her. I have to do this right. I'll wait for her until she is ready, even if it takes years. I can't lose her that would crush me. I stop that train of thought for right now. I can't get work up right now. My mate needs me. I walk back to her room quickly, almost running luckily, nobody got in my way. I can't wait to see my gorgeous mate again to look into those hazel eyes again. I could get lost in those eyes forever.
