4: homeless

Freya Now, I knew I was at a crossroad with nowhere to turn to for help. I was pregnant with a child that I didn't want and a father who was in the wind. Heck! I didn’t even know who the heck he was. Here I was, ashamed and disgraced in my father’s pack like a common slave. Everywhere I turned, gossip followed me all around with everyone calling me a loose child and a disgrace to my father’s pack. Walking out of the palace the next day was like a walk of shame with my head down and downcast. A year ago, if someone had told me that this was the way I would end up, I would never have believed it because I never could have found myself in this situation. It was a totally messed up one, one that I didn't know how to get away from. “What do I do?” I muttered. Now, I was out alone in the cold dark night with a baby growing in my belly and no hope of a home or a future for that matter. I knew my father was wicked but I didn't expect him to go this far in meting out his punishment. He didn’t even give me a glance when he made his final decree which just told me that he hated me with everything he stood for. Thinking about it now, I wondered if I was even his biological child with the way he treated me most times. At least, I saw the way he treated the rest of his children with love and compassion but as for me, I was treated with complete disdain and hatred, one that left me broken in so many places. I was out of the pack and the palace and looking back at the magnificent building rising up through the crowds, I swore with everything in me not to come back here no matter what happened. They had chased me out like a common slave without any regard that I was a human being no matter what I had done. “I hope we never meet again,” I sighed. With a final glance at the building, I stepped into the outskirts of the pack, heading outside of my father’s territory while dropping everything that reminded me of them. Now, i was alone to do however i wish because i had no one over my head. Walking along the tracks, I stopped short when I got to an intersection. I was a bit confused at that moment because I didn't know where to go. The path on my right led to the most feared pack in all the kingdom who had been at loggerheads with our own pack and the path on my left led to the land of the undead, a place not fit for a woman like me especially in the condition i was currently in. It was something I needed to think of, something I needed to put my mind on but with every moment that passed, I was getting increasingly more and more confused. Just then, a noise behind me had me looking up in fear. I could swear I heard footsteps and what’s worse, they were getting closer by the minute. “Who’s there?” I asked. The footsteps stopped for a minute, leaving me confused and self doubting myself if I had truly heard it or it was just a figment of my imagination. I hated to think that there was someone out there waiting to pounce on me, waiting for me to make one slight mistake before whoever it was had my head. “Who’s there?” I repeated, this time louder than before. I was tired of playing games, tired of playing hide and seek with people who didn’t give a damn about me. I had done all of that in my pack and now that I was alone to fend and take care of myself, I wasn't going to continue with any of that. The footsteps got louder and closer and I just knew that whoever it was wasn’t going to back down and they were prepared to have their pound of flesh. All of a sudden, a thought drifted through my mind and I realized that I might have just made a terrible mistake. Now that I wasn't in the territory of any pack, I was very open to rogue attacks. Rogues have been a constant trouble not only for my pack but for other packs who had a hard time trying to curb them but still, none of it worked. It just seemed like with every measure put in place, the rogues became stronger and stronger, making a fool of the pack’s defenses. Rumor had it that it was a cast out wolf who had been banished that had set up that syndicate and they were really ready to wreak havoc on whoever stood in their way. “Please, don’t hurt me.” I begged. If that's what i needed to do, i would do that with everything i had not for my sake but for the sake of my unborn child. I didn’t want my child to suffer what I had suffered in the past because of my silly mistake. This child was beyond precious to me and I would spend every minute of my life proving it. If I had to kill to protect this child, I would do it without any hesitation because even in the midst of my pain, I was given the gift of this child. Just then, a huge figure suddenly appeared in front of me, tall and hulkling and one look at him told me that I just encountered a rogue wolf and this one wasn’t particularly friendly. “Who.. are you?” I muttered. Fear filled my entire body and if I had a mirror right at that moment to look at myself, I knew I was shaking to my bones. Encountering a rogue wolf wasn’t a child’s play and at that moment, I wasn't ready to die. Backing away slowly, I decided to make a run for it rather than standing here and risking the life of my child. “I…” “Where do you think you’re going?” he barked, coming closer to me. Just as I was about to make a run for myself, I was suddenly grabbed by the leg even as more hands tied me down. Now, I knew I had no means of escape because I was overpowered. They were more than I anticipated and this just kept getting worse. “Please… don’t hurt me, I am with child.” I muttered. Silence greeted me even as none of them uttered a word. That was worse than I expected because I knew they were planning something even as they grabbed me, lifting me up so that I had no means of escape. “Alpha Asher will have a swell time with you,” one of the men grunted. I had no idea who that was but one thing I knew was that no good could possibly come out from meeting their Alpha. If they were this bad, I had no doubt that their leader was far worse and this night just went from sad to terrifying.
