Chapter 9

That night, after the celebration, jasmine couldn’t bring herself to sleep.She was sleeping on an iced bed which surprisingly was soft and didn’t feel cold at all. Everything about this place was out of place. Fiona who had turned out to be her favourite despite her first opinion about her. She had even given her a night cloth she changed into. Jasmine thought about the little celebration and smiled to herself. The food, the cake, everything was really great. They had even danced a little when phoebe had sang a song the three of them didn’t know. But all the same, it was still fun. She couldn’t believe she was here with elves! And had almost been eaten by a gigantic bug. But as it all started to sink in, she wasn’t so scared as she had been before. She thought about Richard and how he couldn’t stop looking at her. She had even caught him stealing glances at her on few occasions. Did he like her? She wasn’t really sure. But she knew she liked him. He was sleeping with jack and roofy in the other room where they had cleaned up. The cabin looked so simple from the outside but was like a castle inside. She had to get some sleep she thought, she was going to meet Gaea in the morning. She hoped everything would be fine and this would all end soon but deep down she knew it was a lie. Soon she drifted into sleep.

Wake up, it’s morning already! There’s a lot that has to be done!

Jasmine jerked quickly at the sound of Sophie’s voice. She didn’t know she had slept so late, she had always been an early riser.

“ good morning Sophie, I’m so sorry I slept in I was just really so tired.” Jasmine explained packing her hair into a ponytail.

“ well, that’s fine sugar, mom said you have to wash up so we can all have breakfast then go see Gaea so she could help you get home.”

“ okay, are they boys awake?”

“Yes, they are, they’re getting ready and you should too. We need to cross the white mountains before noon else the ogres will awaken by then and it won’t be possible to cross.”

“ Oh I guess I should hurry up then”

“ yes you should” Sophie said leaving the room.

Jasmine took a quick bath and wore the same red dress she had worn for dinner. Her old clothes were torn and dirty and she really couldn’t put it on.

She looked at herself In the mirror quickly and made her way to were the others were. Roofy ran to her barking loudly and she bent giving him a pat on his back and brushed his fur lightly. She looked and saw jack and Richard eating pancakes. Richard was laughing with phoebe about something and she felt awkward. Was it jealousy? Absolutely not she thought! She couldn’t be jealous and besides they were going home today and Richard might never speak to her anyways.

“Hi” Richard said jerking her out of her thoughts. “Come eat, this pancakes are delicious”.

“Yeah, they are”Jack said with a mouthful. He coughed and gulped down a glass of what looked like strawberry juice.

“ easy, you shouldn’t talk with so much food in your mouth”

“Okay phoebe, jack mumbled and continued eating.”

Jasmine sat close to jack and started eating the pancakes which were covered with maple syrup. It was really delicious.

After breakfast, they got ready to go see Gaea to see how she could help them get home. Jasmine remembered what Sophie had told her earlier about the ogres and felt goosebumps on her skin.
