It was Christmas eve and the royal family had just finished their extravagant dinner, having invited a numerous amount of noble people to come celebrate it was made sure that the cooks prepared more than enough food for the whole night. It was times like this that the servants at the Castle were allowed to eat the luxurious dishes that were left over. 7-year-old Chang-ho was wondering through the halls of the kitchen hoping to find something edible to fill up his stomach. He had tried to get some leftovers, but the senior housekeepers had prevented him from having any ,giving all the food to their children. They told him to stop being a burden and that they had a family to feed. Chang-ho being a good-natured boy left without complaint. He did feel like he was a burden especially since he was being fed by people who were not even related to him. Even though they were a bit heartless they were the only people he knew. Being an orphan wasn't easy. He had no idea of who his mother was or where was he born. Nobody told anything about his past. All he knew was his name ,his date of birth and his destined future. He would become one of the male servants once he was old enough to carry out duties that's about it. Having seen that he was not going to get anything to eat for the night, little Chang-ho headed for the back-door situated at the end of the kitchen's storage. He made his way through the old wooden door ,ending up in the big farm behind which was situated at the rear of the castle. It was quite cold it had been less than a couple of days since winter snowfall had stopped, but Chang-ho didn't really mind the chilling feeling on his body. He knew he was probably going to end up with a cold being as he was only wearing a grey short sleeve and a pair of old ripped trouser, but the fields were his favourite place . Yes it was full of vegetables and bugs but it was peaceful, Chang-ho felt safe there. He was venturing through the tomatoes fields when he spotted a figure sitting down. It was a boy ,he looked about his age maybe older as Chang-ho looked way older than his age for some reason. Chang-ho was a curious kid, so of course he didn’t hesitate to approach the young stranger. He put on his best smiled a tapped the boy on the shoulder. "Hi, I'm Chang-ho are you new here? I've never seen you here before." The boy jumped up frightened by the foreign voice before he turned towards the 'intruder' whilst glaring. " I live here." He said with an icy tone. Before scanning Chang-ho up and down. The boy was skinnier than Chang-ho but much taller as he stood a whole inch above him. "oh" replied Chang-ho before scratching his head in embarrassment ,suddenly a very loud growling noise was heard startling both of them. It turned out that it was just Chang-ho's tummy. He apologised whilst bowing a full 90° degree, he figured the tall boy was older than him. The boy just frowned some more looking disgusted. Chang-ho avoided eye contact. " Wait here" said the boy "huh?" Chang-ho didn't have time to even react to the boy's words when he disappeared . Chang-ho decided to plop himself down it’s not like he planned on going back in anytime soon. The smell of food would just make him hungrier. 20 minutes had passed. Yes, he counted every minute, he wondered if the boy had just gone to bed having found him boring when something warm was placed on his shoulders. "Put it on " Chang-ho whipped his heard back to see the tall boy looking at him expectantly. Chang-ho looked at the foreign object that was placed on his shoulders. It was a fuzzy jacket. He was just about to reject the offer when the older boy waved him off. "It's old I don't use it anymore, there’s no point in me keeping it" Chang-ho smiled back at him in appreciation. He really needed it. The boy also gave him a satchel. Chang-ho raised an eyebrow in a silent question whilst the other just shrugged. When Chang-ho opened the satchel, he found himself out of words. Inside the little bag was a variety of freshly made pastries. There were pasties, sausage rolls, pies and much more. Chang-ho wanted to ask the boy where he found it ,but it turned out that the boy was gone. Leaving him all alone with the pastries. Chang-ho felt really glad. It was his first Christmas passed with a full stomach . The first of many.
