Lara I found Heidi sitting on the edge of her bed, her head bowed, her eyes fixed on the carpet as though it held the answers to questions neither of us dared ask. She looked broken. Not angry. Not even devastated. Broken. That frightened me more than tears ever could. I sat beside her and placed my hand gently between her shoulder blades, rubbing slow circles across her back.
