Lara Later that evening, Heidi and I climbed into the SUV with my father. Nobody spoke. The silence was suffocating. My father sat behind the wheel, his hands gripping it tightly as he stared straight ahead. Heidi sat beside me, equally quiet. Whatever was happening tonight, they both knew more than they were telling me. And I hated it. I hated being the only person in the vehicle who didn’t know what the hell was going on.
