Heidi needed to get out of the house.
That much was obvious.
She’d spent most of the afternoon trapped inside her own head, replaying what she’d seen until the hurt had become something almost tangible.
If she stayed here much longer, the walls might as well have closed around her.
I looked at her.
“Come on. You need some air.”
She frowned.
“Where are we going?”
“Anywhere.”
I stood.
“You need to get out of this house, and I think some fresh air will do you good.”
For a moment, she didn’t move.
Then she nodded.
“Okay.”
Her voice was quiet.
“Let’s get out of here.”
We left her bedroom and started down the stairs.
I was already thinking about where we could go when we reached the bottom.
