It took us about ten minutes of walking through the Shadow Way before we reached Castle Rook. We didn’t see any Strangers along the way, thankfully, but as usual whenever I was in the Shadow Way, I felt like I was being watched by someone I couldn’t see. Jajaras, of course, didn’t seem even remotely disturbed, but one thing I’d learned about vampires was that, despite being just as much at risk of being kidnapped by the Strangers as sorcerers, they didn’t worry nearly as easily as sorcerers did. I wondered if it was because vampires were so naturally strong that they feared very little or if they were so soulless that it never occurred to them to be afraid of anything.
