Chapter Four With the team waiting outside his office, Carl listened to Chief Inspector Rankin’s voice sounding in his right ear. ‘If there’s anything political about this, Carl, the Commissioner wants to know before we take it to the media.’ ‘No problem with that, Chief, but I think we’re a long way from knowing if that’s even on the cards at the moment.’ ‘Maybe,’ said Chief Inspector Rankin, ‘but, given Doug Clarke’s connections, you might want to keep it in mind as a possibility.’ The chief inspector ended the call.
