Chapter Fourteen
Richard Clarke pulled the envelope out from under the windscreen wiper of his BMW and flipped it over. There was no writing on either side. He looked around. There was no-one in the car park behind the offices of Doug Clarke Real Estate, and he knew there was no security camera covering the area.
He held the envelope in his hands and turned it over several times. It felt like it contained nothing but paper. He used his pocket knife to slit open the sealed end and extracted the single sheet of paper from inside the envelope. He opened the page and read the neatly typed message: Go to Appleby lookout. We are watching you.
