Harry called the team together to review their progress.
‘I’ll be assuming control of the Clarke case while the Boss is acting as the chief,’ said Harry.
‘Are they making you acting inspector?’ said Wayne.
‘Not at the moment.’
‘Lousy bastards.’
‘They’ll play it by the rules, so let’s not get sidetracked, shall we?’
‘You’ve got our support, Sarge,’ said Nigel. ‘We’ll look after you.’
‘Thanks,’ said Harry. ‘Now, where are we? Anything new to report?’
‘Got into Swan’s phone,’ said Nigel. ‘Contacts have been wiped.’
‘What about her email?’
‘Same. No photos either.’
‘Someone’s playing with us,’ said Wayne. ‘I reckon that phone was left in her apartment on purpose to make us think we had something.’
