Chapter Thirty-Three
On the afternoon of Thursday, the eighteenth of October, the activities of the Major Crimes Section came to an early end. At two pm, the detectives, who had reported to Detective Chief Inspector Rankin, crossed the square to the cathedral opposite Police Headquarters to attend his funeral service. After the service, they retired to the lounge bar of the Criterion, scene of their many case closing celebrations during George Rankin’s reign as chief inspector, and celebrated for him one last time.
On Friday, the nineteenth of October, Detective Inspector Carl West was promoted to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector and Detective Inspector Paul Henry took command of his old team.
