First Warning

Rain fell softly across Country X. Gray clouds covered the sky while cold wind moved quietly through the cemetery trees. Maureen Green stood silently in front of a white gravestone while holding fresh lilies against her chest. Her mother’s grave. The only place that still made her feel small. Human. Safe. For several minutes, she said nothing. The rain lightly dampened her black coat while memories slowly flooded her mind. Her mother’s laughter. Warm hands brushing through her hair. Gentle reassurances during difficult nights. Maureen swallowed quietly. “I’m trying my best,” she whispered softly. Pain tightened inside her chest immediately afterward. Because the truth was— She was tired. Tired of running from Jordan. Tired of pretending nothing between them mattered. And tired of feeling like her life was slowly slipping out of her control. A few rows away, another black car arrived quietly near the cemetery entrance. Jordan Rodriguez stepped out calmly while carrying white roses. Cold wind brushed against his dark coat as he walked silently toward another grave deeper inside the cemetery. His mother’s grave. Jordan’s expression remained unreadable as always. But something about this place always changed him slightly. Made him quieter. More dangerous somehow. He stopped in front of the gravestone and stared silently at the engraved name for several long seconds. Then finally crouched down to place the flowers carefully. “You were right,” he said quietly. The wind moved softly through the trees. Jordan lowered his eyes briefly. “She’s trouble.” For the first time in years, the corner of his mouth almost lifted slightly. Almost. Then movement nearby caught his attention. Jordan looked up. And froze. A short distance away stood Maureen. Neither of them moved. The rain continued falling quietly around them while silence stretched heavily between the graves. Maureen looked equally surprised. “You came here too?” Jordan slowly straightened. “My mother.” Maureen’s eyes softened slightly. “…Mine too.” Silence followed again. Strangely peaceful silence. No arguments. No tension. Just grief. Jordan’s gaze shifted briefly toward the flowers in her hands. “Lilies.” “She liked them.” Jordan looked toward his own roses quietly. “My mother hated roses.” Maureen blinked slightly. “Then why bring them?” Jordan’s expression remained calm. “She hated receiving dead flowers.” Something painful crossed his eyes for only a second. Then disappeared immediately. Maureen stared at him quietly. Moments like this always confused her. Because beneath Jordan’s coldness— There were cracks. Tiny ones. The sound of Jordan’s phone ringing suddenly shattered the silence. His expression hardened immediately after seeing the caller. Catherine Rodriguez’s bodyguard. Jordan answered instantly. “What happened?” The terrified voice on the other side spoke quickly. “Sir— Miss Catherine has been taken!” Jordan’s eyes darkened dangerously. “What?” “They attacked the convoy twenty minutes ago!” Maureen’s face lost color instantly. Jordan’s voice turned terrifyingly calm. “Location.” — The abandoned warehouse stood near the industrial district outside the city. Dark. Silent. Dangerous. Jordan arrived first. Several black SUVs stopped behind him while armed security guards quickly spread throughout the area. Maureen had tried following him earlier. Jordan refused immediately. “Stay away from this.” Cold. Final. Now his expression looked terrifying enough to freeze blood. One guard approached nervously. “Sir, they’re inside.” Jordan grabbed the gun handed to him calmly. “No police.” “Sir—” “No police.” The warehouse doors slammed open violently moments later. Chaos erupted instantly. Gunshots echoed loudly throughout the building while Jordan moved through the darkness with deadly precision. Several men dropped unconscious within seconds. Fear spread quickly among the kidnappers. Because Jordan Rodriguez did not look human anymore. He looked furious. “Where is she?” Nobody answered. Jordan grabbed one man violently by the collar. “WHERE IS SHE?” The terrified man pointed weakly toward the upper floor. Jordan moved immediately. Then suddenly— A gunshot echoed loudly. Jordan froze. Catherine Rodriguez cried out painfully. Blood stained her white dress instantly. Jordan’s expression changed completely. Pure rage exploded across his face. He reached her immediately while catching her before she collapsed. “Catherine!” She trembled weakly in his arms. “J-Jordan…” Another masked man suddenly laughed from the shadows above. Then a distorted voice echoed throughout the warehouse speakers. “This is only the beginning.” Jordan’s eyes turned murderous instantly. “Show yourself.” But the lights suddenly shut off. Darkness swallowed the warehouse completely. By the time backup generators activated seconds later— The unknown man had already disappeared. Leaving only chaos behind. — Several hours later, Catherine was rushed into emergency surgery. Jordan stood outside the hospital room completely silent. Blood still stained his shirt sleeves. His fists remained clenched tightly enough to turn white. Then footsteps approached calmly behind him. Richard Rodriguez. Jordan slowly turned. His father looked irritated more than worried. “Is she alive?” Jordan stared at him coldly. “She was shot.” Richard sighed heavily. “At least she survived.” The careless response shattered something inside Jordan instantly. His voice dropped dangerously low. “That’s all you have to say?” Richard looked unimpressed. “What exactly do you want from me? Panic?” Jordan stepped closer slowly. “You’re her husband” “And emotional reactions won’t solve anything.” Jordan’s jaw tightened violently. “She almost died.” Richard adjusted his suit calmly. “You’re overreacting.” The punch landed instantly. Several nurses gasped loudly nearby. Richard staggered backward in complete shock while blood spread across his lip. Jordan looked terrifying. Cold fury radiated from him so intensely that even the hospital guards hesitated approaching him. “You disgust me.” Richard slowly wiped blood from his mouth while glaring at his son. “You hit me over that woman?” Jordan stepped closer again. “That woman is your wife .” For the first time in years— Richard Rodriguez looked slightly unsettled. Then suddenly— One of the security guards rushed toward them holding a phone nervously. “Sir…” Jordan grabbed the device immediately. A single message appeared on the screen. Unknown Number. Three words. FIRST WARNING. Attached beneath it— A photograph. Jordan’s expression darkened instantly. Because the photograph showed Maureen leaving the cemetery earlier that morning. Someone had been watching them. The hospital hallway suddenly felt much colder. And somewhere far away— A hidden man quietly watched another screen while smiling slowly in the dark.
