Return of the moon Goddess

1468 Words
And he’s been back everyday since then. Showing up at the exact same hour, for the last three days consecutively. All three times sporting the same hibiscus plant on his arm. It’s unnerving how he creates a tornado of butterflies inside me, how he channels my emotions in a single direction with the smallest actions. I’m tossing and turning in bed later that night, a feeling of restlessness settling over my skin. And then I feel it again, that otherworldly, serene presence. My eyes shoot open, and there she is. As eerie and intense as the last time. Just as beautiful. The moon goddess hovers over my bed, casting a warm glow over the entire room. “You’re back,” I whisper. She moves closer to the bed, tilting her head down at me, “Yes, I am.” I shake my head, a small smile forming on my lips, “Why?” “It seems to me like you’ve found yourself in a difficult situation.” Her hands spread out on either side of her, “I’m here to offer you my advice.” I remain silent, transfixed by her ethereal presence. “My dear Vivien,” she says, “It is time for you to grow again and see life for the beauty that it is.” “Accept your mate,” she continues, “Be with him. I know it is difficult to let go. I know it is hard to forget.” The memories, bitter, harsh, painful, flood through my mind. Everything I lost, everything I suffered. I close my eyes, trying not to think of my little boy. How I’ll never be able to see him again, I’ll never be able to touch him. “I know.” Her voice is strong, understanding. “But it is time.” I nod my head once, realizing for the first time that she’s right. I have to let my life continue on without constantly looking over my shoulder and into the past. I have to think about the future, for myself, for my wolf. For my mate. ************* Vivien “It’s the annual mating ceremony, and I would like you to come with me.” We’re standing outside the back of my workshop. Kieran had arrived only moments ago, bearing the same flowers he always did, and right now, I had just asked him to repeat himself, because there’s no way I could have heard the man right. “Your pack’s annual mating ceremony,” I say, staring up at him, work tools dangling from each hand, “And you’d like me to go with you.” This time, he smiles. “I’m sorry,” I tell him, “But correct me if I’m wrong. Isn’t this a thing where wolves from all over the pack find their fated mates? Isn’t this like a super serious event?” “It is.” “And you want me to go with you?” “I do.” He says it without any hesitation, like he can’t fathom why any of it would be an issue. And I might be calm on the outside, but the truth is, I’m more than freaking out right now. “I can’t.” I say, my voice quiet. He frowns, moving a bit closer to me, “Why can’t you?” “Because,” I’m practically shrieking in his face, “This is a big deal. I know you’re an Alpha wolf, even if you didn’t tell me that. It’s pretty obvious, have you seen the size of your wolf? And that means you’re inviting me to your packs mating ceremony, not a pack you belong to, but your pack. You’re the Alpha.” He folds his arms across his chest, but doesn’t say anything, waiting silently for me to go on. His expression is nothing short of, ‘and your point is?’ Frustrated, I drop the items in my hands, parking them on my hips once they’re free, “You’re practically asking me to meet the largest extended family to ever exist. They’re not just going to ignore my presence, or the fact that I’m your mate.” “I wasn’t expecting them to.” “That’s the point!” I yell. He inhales deeply, holding his hands up. He looks a bit lost, confused, “Tell me what the problem is, Vivien. Tell it to me straight.” I huff out a breath, “It’s too soon. I’m not ready for any of that yet.” His eyes soften, understanding finally overcoming his features. “Yeah,” I say, looking away from him, “It’s a lot.” “It won’t be. You’ll be by my side through out the whole thing. You don’t have to talk to anyone you don’t want to.” I nibble on my bottom lip, still unsure. He’s trying to put it lightly, but I know what a big deal all this is. I know what it means for an Alpha to bring a mate home. Nothing might be done about it now, but it’s sure to open doors I’m definitely not prepared to step through. I had only recently opened myself up to the idea of letting him in, of accepting our mate bond. I want to take things one step at a time, and I’m afraid this small advance in everything is pushing me too far and way too fast. I may be way in over my head, but I can’t help how I feel. “Hey,” He says, his voice just as soft as the expression on his face. He closes the distance between us, cupping my face in both hands, “Do you trust me?” Loaded question. One I’m not sure I’m prepared to answer. “It’s not about that, Kieran.” “Alright. Then do you trust me to keep you safe? To protect you?” His eyes search mine. “I cup my hand over his, “It’s not that I think I would be in any danger, it’s just that-” “It’s all happening too soon and you’re not ready.” He says, like he could read my mind, “I get it. And I’m asking you to trust that I won’t introduce you to anything you can’t handle it. It’ll be just us, you’re not going to be the centre of attention if you don’t want to be. I just want to show you my home.” When he puts it like that, there’s only a very little part of me that wants to stand her ground. It’s scary, the type of effect just one person can have on me. The type of effect one man can have on me. Again. “No super grand introductions if they can be avoided.” I tell him, my voice serious. I’m already caving in, it’s almost pathetic. A grin lifts the corner of his mouth, he knows he got me, “Done.” “No scary, fancy announcements.” “Done.” “No parents.” His smile only widens. “I mean it, Kieran. I have no idea what it would be like to meet people like them.” “People like them?” I roll my eyes, “It’s not hard to miss Kieran. Have you seen the things you wear? The car you drive? You’re not just some wealthy schmuck, it’s obvious you have the kind of money that dates back, decades.” He lets out a chuckle, “So by people like them you mean wealthy?” “I mean old money rich. That’s worse than wealthy.” This makes him toss his head back in a full belly laugh. “I’m glad you find it amusing.” I say. He sobers up a bit, “I’m not one of them.” “Yeah right.” “I mean it.” His expression turns serious, “I maybe from that family, but I built an empire of my own. I’ve made my own way.” His voice softens, “My wealth doesn’t date back decades.” “But your pack is built upon the makings of your family, that includes their past Alpha’s. Not just you.” He nods, “That’s true.” I toss my hands up, “Let’s not make a big deal out of it, just… no parents tonight okay?” He straightens, his hands dropping to caress my shoulder, “As you wish.” I let out a long breath. “It’s a yes then?” His eyes are hopeful. “Don’t make me regret it.” ******* If you would like to know more about this book and me, please join my Fa…ce…boo..k grp.
