A reckless confidence

Sandra’s POV When I said I was leaving, I really meant it and that was going happen this night. All I waited for was the perfect time. After Alpha Williams hit me, I returned to my room with rage flowing through me like lava. That act made me hate my parent even more for bringing me into this predicament and I hated myself for not fighting harder when Leo and his men came to take me away. I had to run away since I was clearly not welcome here. Before I left my room that night, I decided to visit my mate one last time. He was no doubt an asshole and I was still angry at him for calling our bond overrated, but I couldn’t deny my wolf an opportunity to say her goodbyes. Apparently, I had to find out that all his other siblings lived in the same mansion, apart from Xavier who had his personal house. I was lucky enough to not find guards outside my room that night so that gave me a free passageway out of my room. I left the mansion without taking anything. That was because none of the things in the room belonged to me. Was I going to go back to my parents? Hell no. I was going to find a way to fend for myself without them. If they could sell me without blinking an eye, they were surely going to do it again if they had the chance. I found my way to Xavier’s house. It was a luxurious looking bungalow. There was something about the house that just screamed Xavier. The environment seemed calm, mysterious. Without wasting anytime, I scurried to the backyard, trying to locate where his room was and then maybe I could have a quick peek at him. His scent hitting my nose as soon as I reached the backyard made me realize that I was on the right part. After searching through the numerous windows, I got to one. It was then I found him fast asleep. I peered my eyes through the tiny creek of his window and met him sleeping peacefully. His perfectly handsome face seemed so peaceful and I couldn’t help but wonder if he would be happy with me leaving or if he would be affected by it. My wolf howled in disappointment. It was a pity she would have to leave her mate. Left for her she wanted to stay, but she was aware of how desperate I wanted to leave. She knew if I continued to stay here, I was going to get hurt and she wanted to avoid that at all cost. While I watched, not wanting to leave, it seemed he sensed my presence, and that made him tilt as he mumbled in my sleep. That was my cue to leave. I braced myself for the long journey ahead. I relied on my wolf to take me there since I didn't have any money for transportation. I even left my phone behind to avoid being tracked. I didn’t pass through the main gates out of fear of the guards. I went through the woods owned by the pack instead. Hopefully, it’d lead right outside the pack. I wasn’t quite certain of that, but I hoped on my instincts to lead me well. I shifted and then my wolf took over, running through the woods as fast as she could. I was so determined to get out and the farther I went, the more my mind became at ease because I was certain with the distance I had gone; it would be hard for anyone to tail me. I even took breaks because my heart was filled with so much confidence in actually pulling this off. All my confidence turned into fear when I heard some wolves howling from a distance and then I saw about five wolves running towards was I was at full speed. My heart dropped. I knew it had to be Alpha Williams’ guards. How the hell were they able to tell I left when I made sure to be as swift and unnoticed as possible? I didn’t have the time to give myself that answer. My wolf ran like crazy while my heart thumbed fast. The wolves behind were bigger and no doubt faster, so they were definitely all going to catch up with me. Despite how fast my wolf ran, one of them still managed to come so close to me. I was about to lose hope because I knew he was going to grab me. The least I expected was for his claws to sink deep into my wolf’s back. My wolf whimpered and then regained her lost momentum instantly, running even faster. Another of the wolf ran so fast until it was to my front and then it attacked. Head first, it launched, almost using its claws, but my wolf was swift enough to dodge its attack They all did not stop, running and growling at me in frustration. It was then I realized these wolves weren't trying to get me back to Alpha Williams. They were out to kill me! My wolf was still doing a good job in running as fast as she could but was eventually stopped when a wolf pounced on her. The first few strikes of his claws hit my wolf powerfully and out of fear and pain, she shifted, making me vulnerable to the attacks. I tried to get free, but another wolf was already tugging on my leg. The only thing I thought of at that moment was to scream since I could not fight. “Help!” I screamed loudly as I struggled with the big ash wolf on top of me. I grabbed a stone at my side and hit it hard on the head. That made it lose it’s stance a bit and once again, I tried to crawl away, but another wolf dragged me by my leg with my back rubbing roughly on the ground with pointed shrubs piercing through it. Once again, I screamed. “Somebody help! Please! Helppp!!” My eyes widened when the wolf on top of me opened its mouth, ready to tear me apart with its sharp huge fangs. I closed my eyes, whimpering, praying to the moon goddess to accept my soul. I expected the fangs to tear deep into my skin, but they never did, instead, I heard growling at the same time whimpering as the wolf was thrown off me. My eyes flung open to the sight I never thought I would behold. One wolf against five other wolves. The huge wolf who flung my attacker off me growled at all five of them, ready to take them down. I gasped because I immediately recognized the huge wolf. It was Xavier! What the hell was he doing there! He fought fiercely as though this was minor to him. Well, it was definitely like that for him because he was about 2 times bigger than all the other wolves. Those wolves were also about 2 times bigger than mine. Now imagine how small my wolf was compared to his. He ripped the first wolf apart like he was dealing with mere vegetables. It was so bad that the other wolves hesitated before striking him. All four of them charged at him once, but still, they were no match for him. I had never seen a wolf move as fast as he did. He just couldn't be held down by any of them. He tore, ripped and dug deep into their guts as they howled in pain of defeat. They all met their death and when it had gotten to the last wolf that was already badly injured, he fled for his life. He didn't go after him, instead, he turned to me. After one look at the bloodied face of the wolf and those spine-chilling blue eyes, I took to my heels. I had an agenda to run anyway. I was more concerned about getting away from him even though I knew how fast he moved. He was going to have me pinned down in a matter of seconds, so while I ran, I kept glancing back at him to not be taken by surprise. That ended badly for me because while I kept glancing at him, I failed to realize there was a tree in front of me and I bumped my head hard on it. The force brought my dizzy self to the floor instantly and before I passed out, I heard a deep voice growl. “You smeared your intoxicating scent all over my window and expected to get away with it? Darling, you have no idea what kind of a man I am” ********** The next place I woke up was in a different room entirely. I looked around the king-sized bed. This place looked undoubtedly familiar. I then remembered my plans to run away and how it all turned out. I thought about Xavier and my heart skipped. I sat up from the bed that instant, searching around the enormous room I was in. My heart raced the moment my eyes met with the pair of blue eyes watching me “Welcome back Darling” he let out in a deep raspy voice My eyes widened. I was in Xavier’s house! With his hands on his chin, he didn't for a second take his eyes off me. If this man knew what his eyes did to me, he wouldn’t play with my head like that. “You brought me here?,” I asked dryly through, trying to act all calm on the outside. When on the inside, I was losing my mind, thinking about the things that could transpire between him and I on the same bed I was lying on. “No you crawled all the way from the woods till you got here and I just opened the door for you because you look very exhausted,” he said sarcastically. “Oh,” I looked down a bit. “Why didn’t you let me get away? You brought me back here to the same person who sent his men to kill me” He stood up from the couch he was sitting on and drew closer to me. “You are talking about my father,” he said, not in the form of a question, but a statement and I didn't know what to answer to that. He then dipped his hands into his pocket and emerged with what seemed like a golden seal. “I got this from one of the wolves who attacked you” I narrowed my eyes, staring at it in confusion. “What is that?” “Luna Rebecca’s seal. One of the Alpha’s wives seal” It took me a while, but it soon came to me and my eyes widened. “She was the one who sent the wolves to kill me!” I asked in devastation. “That is what it seemed like.” “Why would she want to do something like that when she hasn’t even met me? I mean she doesn’t even know the kind of person I am. Why would she want to do something so evil?” He chuckled dryly as he shook his head in slight disbelief. “Your innocent self is not fit enough to stay in a household as polluted as this. That's how it is. Once competition is sensed, they all try to eliminate it. You should be more careful next time” I sat quiet for a while and my teeth worried through my bottom lip. Then I looked up at him with the hope of finding the questions that had been burning deep within me in curiosity. “You called the mate bond overrated. Why would you say a thing so mean to hurt my feelings?” I noticed how something flashed through his eyes, but it was so quick for me to decipher. He sat calmly on the arm of couch. “Do you want to know what I really think about the mate bond?” he asked and I nodded my head in interest. He sighed. “It's frustrating.” He let out “For 13 years, I had searched for a mate. Even without finding one, I still lived my life like it didn't matter. But just one night I lay my eyes on her and it suddenly felt like my life wouldn't be complete without that woman. And after all those wait for 13 years, I got to find out it might be a forbidden affair to actually be with my mate” I swallowed hard. He felt the same way I felt, just that I didn't care if it was an abomination or not. “We can run away” I suggested, not bothering to hide the desperation in my voice. “Then we don't have to answer to anybody” He paused, staring at me in bewilderment. “I am not that desperately in love to do that” My heart shattered when he said those words. “But we can't just pretend like we are nothing. What the hell are you so afraid of? It can't be your father” Xavier didn't even seem like a man who would fear anyone or anything. I paused as it hit me and then I looked at him. “You are not already married or something are you?” I asked worriedly, hoping that wasn't the case with him. He paused for a while. It was obvious he wanted to tell me something, but something was stopping him. “You need to leave Sandra” he let out with great difficulty. “I have some training to do” That was the first time he had ever called me by my name and it stirred something inside of me. It felt so good hearing him call me that. How the hell could I stay away from a man who by just calling my name did things to me? In defeat, I stood up from the bed and brushed past him. My head still banged from an incident that happened the previous night, but I managed to make it to the door. “Could you at least unlock the door for me?” I asked, turning to him. He sighed as he walked to the door and then opened it widely for me. His scent as he hovered over me made me take my lips between my teeth. He was standing close as he held the door open and I couldn’t help but ogle at his perfection. I leaned closer to him. I was going to try something reckless and I didn’t care if I was going to regret it. I noticed how his eyes darkened the moment I inched closer to him. In his eyes, there was no doubt he wanted me as much as I wanted him. “Thank you, Xavier,” I said right before I brushed my lips against his and kissed him.
