"Call him," Angela urged me as we facetimed.
"I really don't know Ang," I said laughing.
I had told her everything from the bank to the coffee shop. She had held her daughter on her hip and the little girl was yelling at the top of her lungs.
"Eric!" I heard her yell and her husband came from a room after a minute and Ang handed Scarlett over to him. "Hey Eric," I said smiling. He nodded smiling back and took the little girl out of the room.
"You went into the trash for that number," She said and I turned bright red. Why had I mentioned that bit of information?
"Ang-" I began but she cut me off.
"Kat, I need you to call him so I can live through you," She admitted aggressively and I couldn't help but laugh. She was quite small so her being aggressive towards anything really didn't work in her favor or maybe it was just when it came to me.
"Ang, what do you mean you've got a career, husband, and now little Scarlett you've literally got it all," I said playing with the ends of my hair.
"You had coffee with a King Kat, a King. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Eric but I'd leave him in a heartbeat for a king," She said swooning.
I laid back on my couch and laughed. She was always really funny, high school was really where she had shined I thought.
"Can you see me?" She said and I said yeah but clearly she hadn't heard me because she asked again. I sighed and ended the facetime. The connection was bad I assumed.
She had a point I thought standing up and walking to my kitchen. I got a cup and poured some water into it. I tapped my glass and leaned against the counter. Taking a gulp of water I decided I was going to call him. Right after I did some paperwork, called a couple of other people, and vacuumed.
"Yeah, I need to vacuum," I said looking down at the living room area, which was the only area in my condo with carpet. The rest of it was wood.
I knew I didn't need to vacuum.
"I put the cup down and walked to my office. I started on some paperwork and after a couple hours, I was finished with that. Which meant that it was late now, I sighed looking at the time on my laptop. It was eight pm. I would just have to make those calls tomorrow.
I picked up the telephone and held the card in my hand biting my lip. I dialed the number and it rang once, rang twice, maybe he just won't pick up I thought and was ready to just put the phone back down. I could say I had tried.
"This is Patrick King," I heard before I had a chance to put the telephone down. I was silent for a moment, it was as if the words couldn't come out.
I cleared my throat and tucked my hair behind my ear "Hello, It's Katherine," I said and when he didn't immediately respond I started again "We met the other day, coffee shop, you told me to call you," I said embarrassed because I had assumed that he had forgotten me.
"I know who you are," He said laughing.
"So, you just let me keep blabbing like an i***t?" I asked annoyed.
"I thought it was cute," He said simply making me blush like a teenager.
"So, you've decided to take me up on my offer?" He asked and I nodded forgetting that he wasn't right in front of me.
"Um, yes I have, I've decided I want to attend the party," I said and already started to wonder if it was the best idea.
The call had finished with him telling me where this extravagant holiday party was going to be taking place and the dress code. There was a dress code. You know it's fancy when there's one of those. I hung up the phone and let out a breath I wasn't aware I was holding.
Well s**t, now I had to go.
