Raine (19)
“We need to talk”
I lifted my head from the book and saw Sue briskly walk towards, closing the door tightly
“About?” I asked
“You really don’t know?” Sue asked me with a huff
Walking up to me, she folds her arms. I sigh and move back from the table. I look at the clock and realise it was already close to dinner time or rather, after dinner time. I hadn’t been called for dinner which was surprising
“Ok” I replied
I walked towards the living room area and Sue walks behind me. I sit down, sighing in pleasure as I sink deeper.
“We have to change the plan” Sue said
I watched her pace back and forth, her hand rubbing at her temples
“No” I said
“What do you mean no?” Sue asked, pausing to look at me “this isn't a game Raine”
“It never was” I said with a c****d eyebrow
“Then you must know….some part of you must know that this is wrong. We can’t do this” Sue said, coming closer to me
“Sue-” I tried to talk
“It will change everything!” Sue shouted “For everyone! It will destroy lives”
“But it will fix ours” I replied calmly
“And that justifies this?” Sue asked “Raine, we didn’t know this would be our life when we agreed to do this”
“This life is a farce! It’s not real” I said with gritted teeth
“It is to me!” Sue replied angrily “This is my life and it’s not a farce!”
“Your deluded because you have Ray” I said sighing “You know she said with your REAL mate, you would have it all…..including the child”
“That is cruel” Sue said, hugging herself
“Sue” I sighed, slowly getting up “You kne-”
“I didn’t know this!” Sue shouted again “I didn’t know I would meet Ray and find the better half of me in him. I didn’t know I would meet Jason and Anna…their kids. I didn’t know that this life would be so much more than what was promised”
“It doesn’t matter” I said, shaking my head
“How can you say that?” Sue asked with a shocked face “their your brothers…your family”
“No” I replied with a shake of my head “They're a weak version of it. Their not the real version”
“Raine” Sue said softly “That’s bullshit. How can you not see how much they care…how much they love you”
“I do” I whisper
I sit back down and press my head back, closing my eyes
“But I want my family” I whispered “And this isin’t it”
“And you don’t see how this could ruin lives? How many lives in the ripple effect could possibly destroy?” Sue asked
I kept my eyes closed, a lone tear slipping out
“I can’t care” I replied
“Because then you won’t want to do it” Sue whispered back “Doesn’t that tell you that maybe this isn’t right?”
“Sue” I sigh again
“Doesn’t this make you think that we have been wrong? That maybe this IS the life we were meant to have?” Sue asked me
“And what about my family?” I asked “What about yours? Or your child?”
“Look at what we have instead” Sue said as tears trailed down her face
“And that’s enough is it?” I asked, sniffing
“What about Chris?” Sue asked quietly
I stiffened, my eyes glaring at her as I felt myself shiver
“He knows” I said with a bite to my voice
“Not everything” Sue said with defiance “Not that this will change his fate too”
“Shut up, Sue!” I bit out
“No” Sue countered back “You have to stop hiding your head in the sand and accept that you are out to destroy lives with what you are looking to do”
“You make is sound so easy but have you forgotten what we went through?” I asked with anger “Or what we promised each other? I can give you it all back….everything”
“Maybe I don’t want it back” Sue said, her steady haze now making me shudder
“You can’t be serious?” I asked, my eyes wide “I can’t do this without you. I need you!”
“I can’t, Raine” Sue said
She walked to the opposite couch and sat down. I looked at her in horror, my hands twisting and wringing together as I felt my world start to crumble. I quickly put up my shield, not wanting Chris to feel my worry
“Sue” I breathed heavily “Finding Pandora’s box is the easy part, you know that. But I need you to help implement the spell”
“You can’t do it without Aria’s blood and you can’t take it out of this house anyways” Sue reminded me
“I will find a way” I said
“Why are you so hellbent on wrecking all of this?” Sue asked
“Because I want my family back!” I shouted
Silence
“I want my parents, my pack….my brothers back” I continued
“You have your brothers” Sue said quietly “You have their love, there devotion but you don't see it”
“Not this version” I said with a dry laugh “Not their guilt….their changed ways. I want them back how they used to be. Where I am an equal”
“You are” Sue said with a frown “You aren’t any less”
“You think they see me as an equal after finding me in captivity after so many years? You think they don’t wish all of that hadn’t happened?” I asked
“Do you think they will understand why? Or even want it after they realise how drastically their lives will change? Especially Jason’s? Or even yours?” Sue retaliated
“I don’t care about mine” I said with a flick of my hand
“Then care about Jason and his feeling” Sue said with gritted teeth
“I do. He would want Cody” I said with confidence
“And you think he would want Tasha?” Sue asked with a horrible laugh “You think he would pick his child and to be miserable…unhappy with her? And what about the twins and this baby?”
“Actions….wishes have consequences” I said, closing my eyes again
“Yes, but only if they asked for it. They don't even know how much dark magick you consumed…how much you learned and how you want to change the past to alter their future” Sue said “But I can guarantee you - they wouldn’t want it if they knew”
“You sound like you’ve made up your mind” I said with worry
“I have” Sue said with a tilt of her chin “Stop this…now”
“Are you willing to give up on your child?” I asked cruelly
“Like you said” Sue replied after a while “Actions and wishes have consequences and I am willing to accept mine”
I gasped, standing up on shaky legs. I watch her get up slowly and walk towards me
“Raine” Sue said, holding my hands “What we have here is good. What we have here is family. It might not be what we had wanted or even what could have been if life hadn’t changed but its still pretty great”
“I can’t give up” I whisper back
“And I can’t let you continue” Sue said, stepping back
“You can’t leave” i said, my heart beating erratically
I was met with silence
“Are you going to tell them?” I asked, looking at her
“Not if you don’t go through with this” Sue said “Let them love you”
“They can’t” I whisper “Not like how they used to”
“Life changes and moves on” Sue said “Love changes and evolves. Move with it Raine. Don’t do this”
“I….can’t stop” I admit
“You can. You just don’t want to” Sue said with disappointment “Does Chris know how much it will change everything?”
I froze once again and looked at Sue in silence, my heart now beating wildly
“He doesn’t….at least not everything, does he?” Sue asked in shock “Don’t you think that’s something he and his father would want to know?”
“It doesn’t matter” I shahid with a shake of my head
“DOESN'T MATTER?” Sue shouted in shock “Of course it does! With Anna out of Jason’s life….without Aria….the balance could tip! Chris’s dad would want to know how that would affect them and you know it! Especially when they know about Aria’s blood and her powers!”
“They aren’t a factor in this” I said turning my back to her
“Of course they are!” Sue said with a throw of her harms in the air “Your their future-”
“I’m not” I hissed, turning back to look at her
“Of course you are Raine!” Sue laughed “you have been since you were eighteen. How do you think -”
“Stop it Sue” I hissed again “You…Chris…you both have been harping on about the same s**t for years and im so sick of hearing about it. I am a wolf and he is not so-”
“So that makes a difference?” Sue asked “They were there for you…for us and you-”
“And I should pay for it for the rest of my life?” I asked, seething in anger
“Oh my goddess” Sue whispered, pale “You’re not just going to change your brothers fate but yours…..you don’t think Chris should be your mate”
I turned my back to her once again, walking quickly back towards the spell room. I heard Sue walk behind me and I almost flinched when she forcefully turned me around
“You want to do the spell, not just for family but for yourself and Chris. You don’t think you would have met Chris otherwise” Sue accused me
“Of course I wouldn’t have” I laughed sarcastically “We lived on that island. Wolf shifter. Tell me at what point and for what reason would he and I have met? There had been no reason to do so”
“You told me he was your mate” Sue whispered
“And he is….now” I said “But I can guarantee he wouldn’t have been in my past”
“I can’t believe this” Sue whispered “You would really eradicate all these mates for a dream you think should have happened and to hell with the consequences?”
“You were with me” I hissed back
“Until I understood what I had now” Sue wiped a stray tear from her eye “And now I don't want what was promised before….even if I have to give up my dream”
“SO another dream being ripped away because of them” I laughed with anger “Well im sorry but I’m not willing to give up on my dream”
“And I can’t give up on this one” Sue said, her chin now firm; her eyes throwing daggers at me “If you won’t stop then I will stop you….I WILL tell them if I have too”
“Another abandonment” I said with a mean laugh “Why am I not surprised?”
I turned towards the table and almost gasped, my eyes widening when I saw Jason standing there, his eyes stormy - his body rigid and I knew that he had heard enough to be this angry at me. I heard Sue take a deep breath as the smell of her fear premeted the air. Jason’s eyes blackened for a moment before he walked through the door and towards us, his step measured and slow.
I stiffened my body, my spin straight as I felt the power crackle and my hands tingle. I wanted to lash out and almost did until I felt the air around us shift and a white haze clouded my eyes. I felt my mind slip away as everything around me disappeared and I lost my vision. When I heard Sue gasp, I knew something similar had happened to her and for the first time, I felt real fear being so close to my brother
