Chapter 10

1268 Words
Looking around the room my heart sank someone died here and I didn't help them. There was so much blood the scent of copper making me sick to my stomach. What happened here? Moving close to the wall I sniffed the air trying to pick up any smells I didn't recognize. The only things I smelled were myself, Liam, and Alec. That was strange why did I smell Alec? He hadn't been in the living room for almost a week. He came by to speak to his brother yesterday a before a couple of hours I had gotten home but according to Liam, he hadn't gone inside the house. Turning I waited watching as Liam paced back and forth across the room barking orders into the phone like a drill sergeant. If we had been anywhere but here it would have been sexy as hell. Instead of being turned on, I felt myself feeling sick the sorrow and the anger tearing through me like a wave. If the Killers have found me why didn't they do anything? I was alive and a shifter has been murdered in cold blood because of me. Jerking away from my thoughts and looked up to see Jace and Alec in the hallway. As Liam talked to Jace and Alec I slipped outside needing a moment to myself and needing to get away not just from the scent of blood but to call Jade and Leia. Not sure how long it would take for Liam to realize I was gone I hurried to my car. Opening the door to my car I sat there for a moment gathering my thoughts before dialing Jade's number. "Hey b***h how's the extra day off going?" I sat there for a moment as I realized I had no idea how to tell her. I knew she wouldn't be mad but what would she think when she knew someone else had died because of me. "Anna? Babe is everything ok? Did Liam do something? If he did ill kick his ass I don't care if he is an alpha." "How do you do that?" Letting out a shaky laugh as I smiled down at the phone. "Do what? Be amazing? It just comes naturally I would offer to teach you but you're so busy with your new boy toy I'm not sure you've got time for me anymore" Jade's voice dripped with sarcasm as she spoke causing me to burst into giggles as she spoke. Pulling myself together I told jade what had happened starting with when I got home last night. I told her about the fight with Liam. I told her about shifting and running through the forest. I even told her about me and Liam falling asleep in the backyard. She stayed quiet as I told her about waking up to the scent of blood and what I found in the living room. When I finally finished it felt like the story had taken forever to recite but in reality, it was only a couple of minutes. Glancing towards the front door I breathed a sigh of relief. Liam hadn't noticed I had left yet. "It's not your fault," Jade's voice rang through the phone "I know you probably think it is. Whoever is doing this knows what they're doing this isn't their first time it's probably not even their second time. I mean for the f***s sake they did all that in your living room with you and Liam outside. You can't blame yourself for somebody else's actions. Now you need to get off the phone and call Leia I will go get her after work and bring her to the house we will get to the bottom of this." She hung up before I could reply. Jada was right though me and Liam we were just outside there's no way they missed us being there. Why didn't they do what they had been threatening all along? They wanted me because they thought I was stepping out of line. I had been right in front of them they could have easily killed me instead of the shifter inside. There had to be something we were missing. Dialing Leah's number I felt a little bit better the tightness in my chest ease as I told her what I had told Jade. As I spoke the sound of bottles and books hitting her table were loud as if they were magnified over the phone. When I have finished telling the story I voiced my concerns needing to ask somebody else besides Jade. Jade has been my best friend since we were kids and she was blinded by her loyalty and feelings for me. "It's weird that the person who did this didn't try to harm me instead of killing that person right? I mean there's no way they could have missed me laying out in the yard with Liam. And if they were able to kill that shifter in my living room without us waking up why couldn't have done the same to me without waking Liam?" For the first time since I had called Leia, the phone was silent of the sound of bottles clattering or books hitting the table. "It's possible that their motivation is different than what was it thinking is. They may be just trying to scare you or break you. I agree with Jade it's not your fault but something's not right. I think we're missing something hopefully when I come over tonight we can figure out what that is. For now, don't let anybody else into the house they could affect the Spells. Be careful I'll see you soon." Leaning forward in the seat I rested my head against the steering wheel. Jade and Leia were right something wasn't adding up there is something we are missing this couldn't just be about me. With a sigh, I sat up looking towards the front door seeing if Liam realized it was gone yet. I knew I didn't want to go in I didn't want to smell the blood didn't want to see it everywhere I want to go back to how things were before I and Liam had woken up. It took me a minute of looking towards the door before I realized that someone was standing in the shadows next to the door. They look angry for a moment I thought it must be Liam. He must've realized I had slipped out and he was pissed. Stepping out of the shadows I realized it was Alec and as he stepped forward the anger I saw disappeared. Instead, he had a small smile had Liam sent him to look for me? With a nod, he turned around disappearing back inside. More questions swirled around inside my head most of them involving Alec. I had smelled Alec earlier by the wall hadn't I? had he been in the house at some point today? I could have sworn it had been Liam and I had thought he was pissed. But when he stepped out he was smiling if I was right about what I saw why was he angry? Did he hear my conversation with Leia? I know he wasn't there when I had been on the phone with Jade but what about when I was talking to Leia? The sudden fear that shot me was sudden and scared me more than anything else I had been through in the last week. Alec knew something and if there was anything I was sure of right now it was that I couldn't trust Alec.
