There wasn’t much said between Liam and me as we both got on our phones. Liam called people sending out warnings or setting up extra patrols around the area, while I called and warned people not to go anywhere by themselves until this is resolved. Finishing the last call, I turned to Liam, not sure how to put the thoughts that had been going around in my head since he had revealed the news this morning.
“Liam”
“Don’t even finish your sentence,” a growl emitting from his chest as he stalked towards me. “You are my mate, and this doesn’t change anything. If you think for a second it does, then ill have to convince you otherwise.”
Trying to hide my smile, I backed up, keeping the kitchen island between us as I did.
“Liam, someone is hunting small shifters, and at least part of that is our fault somehow; the fact that I’m your mate has gotten back to other people. I haven’t told anyone except Jade, so there is a real possibility that the threat is from your pack or someone from the local bears or lions. We have to be cautious and think about things logically here.”
“I will not give you to them or give into any other demands they have if that’s what you’re suggesting. These people need to realize that the times are changing, and they either need to change with it or die. If they choose the latter option, I will gladly help them with that.
It took all day to convince Liam to leave and that no matter what he said, I wouldn’t go with him despite his threatening to throw me over his shoulder and carry me there kicking and screaming. After threatening to castrate him if he tried, Liam seemed to rethink his idea, instead insisting on spending the night at my place until everything was resolved. No matter what I said to try and convince him otherwise, he wouldn’t budge, instead saying I could either let him in or he would find his own way in.
When he finally left, I called Jade to relay not only what happened last night but this morning as well. The resulting scream on the other end was loud enough to make even a human go def. Once her excitement faded, we talked for a while about the real issue at hand who was threatening shifters.
“Liam said your name was mentioned specifically?” Jade said quietly as if hesitant to speak the words aloud.
“Yup, they want me handed over for stepping out of my place… They will pay for threatening me and those I care about. I’m done being the weak little fox that others seem to expect.”
“So.. what’s the plan?”
“Do you still know that witch, the one who was dating the owl shifter?” An idea suddenly springing to mind
“Leia? Yea, why do you ask, babes?”
“Can you get ahold of her for me to see if she will meet up with us tomorrow morning? I think I have an idea of how to find out who left the threat. I just hope that I’m wrong about the person being from one of the local packs.”
“Sure thing she owes me a favor anyway. I’ll pick you up first thing; be ready. She doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”
After hanging up with Jade, it wasn’t long before I heard a car pull into the driveway; knowing it was probably Liam, I didn’t bother to answer the door when he knocked, knowing he’ll just let himself in whether I said he could or not. By the time he walked into the kitchen, ignoring his look of irritation, deciding instead to turn away to place my delivery order from Nima’s pizza.
While I placed the order, I refused to look at Liam, instead choosing to look anywhere and everywhere but at him, afraid if I did at that moment, he would be able to know I was planning. Jade would always say that my face was easier to read than most children’s, so she always knew when I was trying to hide something. Hanging up the phone, I turned to Liam, knowing I couldn’t hide from him forever as much as I would love to.
“You didn’t open the door” Liam’s eyes met mine his eyes his irritation evident in his eyes.
“You said you’d be here at night and come in whether I said you could or not, so why would I make things easy for you” Grinning at him, not bothering to hide the fact that I thought the whole situation was the funniest thing about the day so far.
Studying me for a moment, Liam didn’t speak. “I’m so glad that I amuse you, little fox maybe next time ill just let myself in. Hopefully, ill find you in the shower instead of the kitchen ordering enough food to feed an army.” smiling, he strode towards me, his steps slow and calculated as if he was stalking prey.
“The fact that you think you’ll ever get a chance to see me naked again is more amusing than you thinking that I’m just going to let you in willingly! Here I thought that wolves were smart!” Grinning, I moved to step around him
Looping an arm around my waist Liam stopped my escape long enough for him to lean in, his lips grazing my ear as he spoke, “Oh Anna, I know that I will see you naked again, but ill play your game. Just know this before the night is through. You will be underneath me screaming my name as I f**k you repeatedly.” Nipping my ear, Liam released me, the smell of my arousal thick in the air as he walked away; my knees were suddenly weak.
This man is going to be the death of me; I thought as I watched him disappear into my living room.
