THE WALK OF SHAME

589 Words
I woke up with my head spinning for some minutes before looking at my left and there he was, still as handsome as the night before. I had a splitting headache and, probably due to my hangover, I guess that's what you get for mixing drugs and drinks all night long. Why did I even drink that much last night? Oh yes, I remember: it was because of him that I got into this mess. I quietly stood up, packed my stuff, and ran out as soon as I could. I didn't even look at the face of the man next to me. I was trying my best to forget it all and move on. I'm not usually like that, though. I'm not really the type to have a one-night stand and run out to take the walk of shame, but when you can't control yourself, things just happen. I went out of the house successfully despite the hangover. I had a pretty good remembrance of how I came in and how to get out of the hotel room. I could feel people staring as I walked back to my house, but I didn't care much, although I deeply wished time traveling and teleportation were at my fingertips. On reaching my house, I just went to lie down on the bed. It was a very warm welcome, finally back in familiar sheets. I was famished, had a hangover, and couldn't place a finger on exactly what I did last night, but I left that thought for later and then drifted to sleep. I woke up at around 4 p.m. My headache was at least a little bit better than it was in the morning. I looked for my phone in my bag, put it on, just to see lots of messages coming in, but I ignored them. I went to my kitchen, drank a glass of water, and went to get a hamburger for my hangover. The rest of the day was a blur. I woke up the next morning, got ready, and went to work to begin my normal day-to-day activities. As I stepped in, I saw my partner waiting for me at our desk with a cup of coffee. I went, sat down next to him, and shared a familiar cheer and gulped it all down like shots on the rocks. As we were talking, the chief came in and walked towards us with a big smile, tapped us on our shoulders, and congratulated us on a job well done. He even called the attention of everyone and gave us each an award, praising us like parents do when their kids win a game at school. But we deserved it! We have been working on catching those d**g dealers for a whole six months! And last night, they made the biggest mistake of throwing themselves a party to celebrate their "Big Break." Fortunately, their big break gave us the break we needed, and who could resist a sexy hooker accompanied by her own bouncer, class, and attitude? That’s the right way to go. I was glad when it was all over. My partner and I went back to our desks, and we were chatting away while working a little, of course, and just when I thought it was all over, another part of my life came back to haunt me after years of me trying to forget. I guess stupid decisions always come back to bite you, no matter what.
