A GHOST IN THE PRECINCT

756 Words
A woman came in screaming my name at the top of her lungs. She startled everyone; even the chief came out because of all the commotion she caused. And when she saw me, she grabbed my collar, pulling me close to her. As I saw her, I recognized her. She started calling me names, saying I could never let go of her man and that I slept with her husband. I just stood all the while. I couldn't say anything because she was right and wrong at the same time. I did sleep with her husband, but in my defense, I was influenced by drugs and drinks. My partner drew her away and locked her up, but still there was no peace. She kept on shouting and banging the walls. My partner started looking at me all weird and everyone in the station followed suit. I guess they were all wondering what was going on because they knew for sure it was not something I was capable of doing. The chief called me into his office and my partner followed as well. They started questioning me about what was going on, but I kept quiet all through. When they saw that they were not getting anywhere with me, the chief let me go with a warning that such a situation should never happen again and my personal life should not clash with work again. With this, he let me off the hook, but my partner still kept on pressuring me about what happened, but I still didn't say a word, and for sure, this pissed him off. Luckily, a man came into the station to bail out his wife, so our attention was shifted. As I met his gaze, I could feel my heart trying to burst out of my skin. There he was, the man I slept with yesterday, coming in to bail his wife that just harassed and embarrassed me in public. When he saw me, he walked up to me and asked where Diana, his wife, was and I took him to her cell. He processed her bail and she was out. But instead of going home, she came to me and this time, luckily, decided to fight me in a low voice. She warned me never to lay my hands on her husband again, stating the fact that they were happily married and that even though I had a history with him, he was now hers and I better back off. Then, finally, she left. I was mortified. Why he had to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, why did he have to see me, why was I drunk, why did I sleep with him? I kept on asking myself over and over again. Time never flies fast when you want it to. I couldn't wait for the day to end. I really just wanted to get home. The whole department heard what happened. Everyone was gossiping, some were even pointing fingers. It was worse than my Walk of Shame home yesterday. I just wanted to disappear. I couldn't take it anymore, so I went and begged for the day off, and luckily, the chief, being the kind man that he was, understood the situation and granted me the rest of the day off. I ran out faster than I thought I ever could. As Chris and Diana got home, he started reprimanding her, asking her how she could do such a thing even after he explained what happened to her, stating the fact that he regretted telling her anything. How could you go to the police station and cause such a scene? She looked him right in the eyes and told him to stop saying nonsense, saying she was sure that it wasn't a mistake he had s*x with me, stating the fact that she knows for sure he still had feelings for me despite being married to her for years and that she would never believe a word he says, no matter what. With this, she stormed off into the room to have a bath and change of clothes. Afterwards, she went to sleep and he decided to sleep on the couch in the living room, which wasn't very surprising as they had actually been sleeping in different rooms since they got married. He never loved her and she married him for money, so they never even tried having children and that was how the night ended.
