THE PRICE OF REBELLION

838 Words
After about two days, everything was almost back to normal, which was expected when you think about all the kinds of people that come in and out the station every day and the weird stuff that happens. My partner had given up on asking and I was very happy because something I had always wanted was just about to happen. I finished filling the paperwork on my desk and made my way to the chief. I was about to ask for my leave days due to my upcoming special event. He accepted without a fuss and I was given a three-weeks leave. The guests for my luncheon started pouring in, more like when you want to see the banished princess, less like when you want to see your friend. But I was ready for them. I knew I had more enemies than friends and frenemies as well. They were all wolves in sheep 's clothing and I was really the banished princess. When everyone gathered in the center of our large room, my mother called on me and I came out as beautiful as ever. Finally, I was back where I belong and had missed for so long. I come from a rich family. We are at the top of the food chain and I am an only child. I had everything growing up and never learnt how to filter the fake and real people in my life. I always wanted to be more than Mum and Dad's beautiful princess and when I finished college, I built up the courage to ask my parents for permission to become a police officer and that was where my downfall started. I have had many fights about one thing or the other with my parents, starting from my relationship with Chris to the last fight where I lost it all and my parents took their hands off my case. Believe it or not, Diana and I were once friends. I even met Chris through her and we started dating not long after. The relationship was amazing. It was a kind of f*******n love because he was not the same class in wealth as I was. He was poor when compared to me, but I loved him nonetheless. I knew my father would never give into the marriage, but I always kept my hopes up. Besides, I'm the only child, they had to listen to me one way or the other. My father tried marrying me off to another man that fit their standards, but I stood my ground, using all resources I had with my friend Diana always backing me up all the way. She was there at the beginning of our love and stood by us all through the struggle, if only I knew that she had other thoughts in mind. Chris also fought for me despite all that my dad did to him and his family. He truly loved me and stayed strongly with me, fighting my family head on. And finally, after about five months, dad accepted our love and we were set to get married and at the same time, my acceptance letter came from the department. I had been appointed and was to start my job the following week. With glee in my heart, I took this news to my parents, happy that everything was going according to plan, but I was soon to learn the hard way that you can't eat your cake and have it and my father was about to prove he was and will always be smarter than me. I came into their room, gave them the letter and my parents' face turned pale immediately. My mother started making a fuss, asking me why I wanted to kill myself, vehemently telling me that what I wanted was impossible and they would never allow it. She said I should forget about all that and focus on my wedding coming up tomorrow. My father kept quiet all through and when my mother was done, he asked her to excuse us. He walked up to me and said, make a choice: either you marry Chris or you go for your job. Keep in mind, if you marry Chris, then all is well, and if you choose your job, all is well, but we will sever all ties with you and you will truly become the commoner that you have always wanted to be. With that, he sent me out of the room. He said if I showed up at the wedding tomorrow, then he will believe that I chose to be with the love of my life, Chris, but if I don't show up, then I am free to go to my job. I came out in tears. I didn't even realize when I passed my Mum as she was going back into the room. My head and heart were in a very heavy battle and I wanted both of them to win.
