Chapter 6 The Goblin Attack

1208 Words
Leisurely days always pass quickly, especially for the servants in Eagle Fort. The assassination that happened a month ago had long faded from their memories. The explanation given by the butler, Jess, was very reasonable. The assassin had been dealt with by Lord Kane, and the crisis had been resolved on the same night. Although they were amazed by the frequent drills of the soldiers on the training ground, they didn't pay much attention to it. They just thought that Lord Kane had some new arrangements. At noon that day, the gentle sunlight shone on the entire land, making people want to have a comfortable nap. A figure covered in blood rode a fast horse and rushed towards the castle. Soon, he was stopped by the guards defending the city. "Stop. Please identify yourself." The cavalryman with arrows still stuck in his body pulled on the reins and stopped at the city gate. "Cavalry unit. I'm Aimeier. I have something urgent to report to Lord Kane." Seeing that the other person indeed had something urgent to report to the baron, after confirming his identity, the guard allowed him to pass. After making his way through, under the gaze of many servants, the cavalryman finally met Kane. He saluted with difficulty and reported to Kane, "Lord Kane, our cavalry patrol team was attacked by goblins around Mako Village." Kane asked in confusion, "Goblins? Tell me what happened." Then, he noticed the arrows on the cavalryman and quickly ordered the butler beside him, "Jess, go and call Lim." Lim, whom Kane mentioned, was the only physician in the territory and could also be said to be the baron's personal physician. Although his medical skills were not excellent, given the urgency of the situation, there was no other choice but to give it a try. Soon, Lim arrived with his assistant, carrying a large bag of medical supplies. With Kane's help, the cavalryman Aimeier sat in a shaded corner. Despite his severe injuries, Aimeier continued, "My lord, at noon today, our cavalry patrol was on duty outside Mako Village. Suddenly, a group of goblins rushed out from the surrounding forest and clashed with us. They outnumbered us, and the leader of the goblins was a transcendent. Our squad couldn't hold up, so the captain sent me to report. I'm afraid the rest of the squad..." Hearing about the squad's ordeal, Kane let out a deep sigh. "Alas... Aimeier, did you see what weapon the transcendent goblin used?" "Yes, my lord. It was a spiked club." Kane nodded. "Good. I understand the situation. Take good care of yourself and recover soon." "Yes, Lord Kane." After comforting the cavalryman, Kane turned to the physician Lim and ordered, "Heal his injuries and make sure there are no lingering health issues." Lim, who had no choice but to accept this difficult task, swallowed hard. He had already taken a rough look at the cavalryman's condition. The man was injured all over, with the most severe wound being the arrow - pierced shoulder. If not treated promptly, the wound would become infected with tetanus, and then no one could save him. "Yes, my lord. I will do my best." After replying to Kane, Lim quickly, together with his assistant, moved the injured man indoors for treatment. The sudden situation gave Kane a major headache. The matter of Wenlai Fort was still unresolved, and now a group of goblins had appeared outside the territory. What was more important was that he had lost an entire cavalry patrol. It was well - known that training a cavalryman was no easy task. Just the cost of horses and armor alone was extremely high, not to mention the time spent on training. Calculating the losses in his mind, Kane walked into the study. First, he instructed the butler Jess beside him to notify Catherine and Marcus to come to the study. Then, he started to think about the situation outside the territory. The Regit Territory was the full name of Kane's territory, which included a castle and several villages. As far as Kane could remember, there should be no orc - like creatures around the Regit Territory, and even the number of transcendent beasts was extremely small. The sudden appearance of a goblin tribe with a transcendent was really puzzling. Could they have escaped from the Orc Empire in the south? "Knock, knock, knock." The knocking on the door interrupted Kane's thoughts. It seemed that Marcus and Catherine had arrived. With Kane's signal, the two pushed the door open, saluted respectively, and then looked at Kane. On their way here, they had heard something about this incident. "A cavalryman just came to report that a group of goblins has appeared outside the territory," Kane said. Catherine, who was quite excited, asked, "My lord, I heard that there is a transcendent among them?" Kane nodded. "It seems you've already heard. That's right. Their leader is a transcendent. We don't know its current rank yet, but it should not exceed the high rank of the first tier." The experienced Marcus suggested, "My lord, we can't delay this. The enemy may plunder Mako Village at any time. We need to act quickly." "Yes, I was thinking the same." As he spoke, Kane opened the map on the table. He pointed to the forest in the south and said, "According to Cavalryman Aimeier's report, the goblins clashed with the cavalry patrol here." Marcus glanced at the terrain and said with a hint of frustration, "My lord, this forest is extremely dense. I'm afraid it's not suitable for mounted combat. We'll have to enter the forest on foot." "That seems to be the only option." Kane didn't have any other alternatives. Kane then turned to Catherine and gave an order, "Assemble all the scouts in the territory. We need to reconnoiter the enemy's numbers and position." "Yes, my lord." Once the plan was finalized, Kane stood up. "There's no time to waste. Let's move out and gather outside Eagle Fort." "Yes, Lord Kane." The two of them, upon receiving the orders, rushed out of the study to muster the troops. Meanwhile, Kane made his way to the lord's bedchamber to don his armor. In an instant, the entire territory was abuzz with activity. Summoned by Catherine, the soldiers headed for the assembly point. Column after column of cavalrymen rode their swift horses through the castle. The castle servants, filled with worry, all stared outside the city walls, hoping that the upcoming operation would proceed smoothly. Shortly after, Kane, mounted on a white stallion, arrived outside the city. He was clad in exquisitely polished armor and gripped the family - heirloom sword in his hand. By now, all the soldiers and cavalry within the territory had assembled. Marcus and Catherine stepped forward from the ranks and took their positions beside Kane. "Lord Kane, all 24 members of the cavalry unit are present and accounted for." "Lord Kane, 42 armed infantrymen and 3 scouts have all arrived." Excluding the 6 casualties from the cavalry patrol and the castle guards, all the military forces of the Regit Territory were gathered here. Kane nodded and then bellowed, "Forward! Let's march against the goblins and avenge our fallen comrades!" "Yes!!!"
