Sam's vision was getting blurry it was the first time he had seen that much blood come out of his body.
"It's shocking the first time, isn't it?" Polo asked Sam, slowly approaching, "I remember the first time I went through this... I thought I was going to die, but now..." The Guardian took off his coat and lifted his shirt, revealing a body covered in assorted scars, "But now I'm a survivor. Still, maybe I'm not chosen to wield the power of the crystal. There's a lot at stake. Do you think this is a work for you? What's your name?"
"Samiel... Sam."
"I understand, Sam." Polo went back to putting on his clothes "Power is intoxicating, but there is so much at stake, this is not a simple joke. I make you a proposal. You return the crystal to me, but I can see to it that you are trained as a Guardian. You'll still learn to use magic, you'll still have great adventures, but you'll have fewer responsibilities."
"Yes…I could do that." Sam babbled and Polo managed a satisfied smile, but only until Sam continued to speak. "But no, I won't... for some reason this power was entrusted to me and now I must defend it."
"Do you think yourself worthy?" Polo asked in a disgusted voice. For the first time Sam saw him rage. Polo pointed his finger at Sam like he was pointing at a criminal, "By a prank by some trickster who must follow the orders of the Demon Emperor you have that power for yourself. Never mind, in a few minutes you'll be sorry before your final breath!" Polo rushed forward eagerly, Sam braced for the fight, still wounded.
“WIND BLAST!” Sam shouted, firing his magic at the enemy, who in turn also conjured his own technique.
“LOW FLIGHT KICK!” Polo yelled, the two techniques collided creating gusts of wind that raised dust and boulders. This time Sam's attack got the better of him and Polo was thrown backwards by the wind, however he remained standing and somersaulted to keep his balance and landed perfectly on the ground. "Don't let this tiny victory go to your head." The Guardian took a leap and then a second leap in midair, like a double-jump in a video game, then he reached another of the islands that floated there. Sam couldn't hope to reach that altitude, he didn't know how to fly or even take that double jump. From above, Polo watched him like a bird of prey about to capture its prey, then the Guardian sprang from there preparing a kick surrounded by wind, his attack powerful and cutting, “Die! FALCON HUNT!!” it was like a crossbow shot boosted by wind, Sam knew his magic wouldn't stand a chance against it and tried to dodge it, but the range of Polo's blow was wide and Sam felt the slashing kick to his back.
Sam screamed in pain and fell to the ground. Blood coming out of his wounds.
"You're finished" Polo said approaching Sam's body and taking the crystal. Without being able to do much, the chosen one of the wind began to fade and feared that he was about to die.
"You can't afford to die here," the wind's voice whispered in her ear.
“W... what?”
"We, the ancients chosen ones, gave you our blessings. The power is yours and no one can usurp it!"
“But what can i do?”
"You can rise again and fight until there is no trace of your strength, rise once more and the power will not let you down. Trust the ancient power and yourself!"
Struggling and still bleeding, Sam stood up once more.
"You shouldn't have gotten up" Polo said in an apparently calm voice. "Without Kerd's power, the crystal power, you're nothing."
"That's true," Sam said, still struggling to stand, "still...still...I'm not giving up what's mine. Give it back to me!"
Sam glared wildly at his opponent and held out his hand as if he were about to receive something, the winds blow hard and taking the crystal from Polo's hand and making it land in Sam's hands. Polo frowned. The crystal light shone in Sam's hands, like a beating heart, Sam felt a new wave of power invade his body.
"There is no other solution, I will have to kill you!" Polo yelled and then double-jumped to one of the other islands that floated there, however, this time Sam followed, also double-jumping into the air. "Apparently you've acquired a new trick, but that won't be enough to defeat me." Then Polo made a third jump in the air and concentrated his wind magic around his body. “Die! FALCON HUNT!!”
But Sam was more powerful now, he could control faster and bigger wind masses. He pointed the open palm and fingers together over his closed fist towards the opponent who was coming with his swift, slashing kick.
“FURIOUS AERIAL!!” Sam roared and a curved gust of wind, swift and lethal, hit Polo's body with a force that even he doubted, he was dragged away crashing into the underside of one of the islands that floated there and falling unconscious in midair.
With the effort beyond counting, Sam also began to fade, but he smiled, as he felt he was being gently wrapped by the air, which seemed to lull him to what was perhaps eternal sleep...
