It was evening and dinner would be served soon, while Fenrir, and as far as I knew, others of his friends were exploring the academy. In fact, would that be complicated, searching for secrets? That academy was quite big and in fact it should have had a lot of secrets. At least Fenrir thought it was a little safer inside that place, besides, even though it was big, the academy was limited, three scrolls in that space wasn't so bad. He'd already taken a shower on his way to the dorm and changed into more casual clothes, like an all-star outfit, old jeans and a T-shirt from one of the rock bands he liked. Fenrir ended up straying too far away from the rest of the school, or maybe it was his inner darkness that led him to the farthest and darkest places... and there he was, in those abandoned places at the academy, that Takehiko had told the students not to go and as it was all deserted, Fenrir guessed that everyone followed the recommendations. It was a place with too many trees, too dark. He started to be afraid to continue, but when she looked back he could see nothing but trees, so she continued. He saw skeletons of buildings, with materials scattered everywhere, castle ruins, and felt himself being watched by the trees. He got into the skeletons of buildings. Now everything got worse, and he saw dozens of red eyes in the shadows of the building.
"Being afraid of the dark is not the function of the chosen one of darkness." Fenrir thought then the darkness became familiar to the boy seeing things perfectly, but without colors.. The red eyes rushed at him in a thousand wingbeats. Bats. No, it wasn't just bats, there was something else in the shadows. Quick and agile as a cat, a strange dark blur attacked the boy, knocking him down. The creature gripped his arms tightly, and snarled at him. Bat-red eyes stared back at him, and bright, protruding teeth menaced him. The boy's arms were immobilized, there was no way to escape. Not in normal ways. He then tried to do what he had done against Handrox again, but it was even harder than that time, as there was a guy on top of him, threatening to rip him apart with his teeth, but he finally managed to concentrate enough, disappearing between the shadows. He reappeared nearby, emerging from the darkness behind the creature. She looked confused, didn't know what had happened, and looked from side to side, growling for answers. Fenrir took advantage of this moment, and struck the creature on the head. He saw everything around him, and hidden behind wooden beams were a handful of them. They looked like normal students, but their uniforms were darker, not blue but black, although Fenrir didn't distinguish colors very well, and they were too pale and with red or yellow eyes that twinkled menacingly. The glow color of those eyes was the only color Fenrir really could distinguish in the darkness, they seemed to have a glow of their own.
"Don't you think it's too dangerous here for a rookie like you?" Asked a voice. She was feminine, but rather low in tone and firm and strong. Fenrir looked towards the voice. A girl dressed in the same black uniform as the others looked at him from above an unfinished floor. She couldn't really see her face from there, apart from her bright red eyes.
"Wait a minute, dangerous?" asked Fenrir giving a smile "I'm in the damn school. What's the biggest danger when I'm in here? A wedgie?"
"You're going places you shouldn't, newbie!" snarled the boy Fenrir had hit, getting to his feet. "Welcome to Myrddin Spellon Academy, brat!"
"You guys have a weird way of welcoming us here."
"Wait a minute, guys" Asked the girl who was on top of a beam now, "I just need to analyze something." She then jumped there with enviable dexterity.
"My, my" she said as she walked towards Fenrir "you're not even from here, are you? Tell me, how did you end up in this world."
...
Suddenly that girl spoke out of nowhere to her companions...goths or whatever, that it was okay, that she would take care of Fenrir. The boy was already expecting some kind of combat with that mysterious girl, but she just came to him and pulled him away for a walk, which left Fenrir confused.
"Come on boy, let's go for a walk." She said, in a less severe tone.
"What's up, huh?" Fenrir asked suspiciously.
"Your clothes gave you away, young boy. You're not of this world, you're not from Fantastinen, are you? How was your crossing?"
"Not pleasant at all." Fenrir admitted, "how do you know all this, huh?"
"I told you, your clothes, boy, you're clearly not from around here and I'm not either, you know? It's a little rare to see people from my home dimension here, in this academy, even more a boy who likes..." she turned to face him and suddenly touched his chest, pointing to the band's stamp, "System of a Down, hey, it's one of my favorite bands too, okay?"
"That's cool" Fenrir smiled too.
"I'm Katy Hillblack, second year sophomore, what about you young boy?"
"Fenrir Silvster, first year rookie."
"You are pretty brave to walk around alone, being a first year rookie, even more so with your size" The girl ruffled his hair. Katy was sublimely beautiful. She was a pale girl, but with blood-red lips, as if all blood of her had gone to her mouth. She was serious-faced, tall and slender, her long black hair flowing like a river of darkness down her back. Black eyeliner swathed her long-lashed eyes. Her smiles were rare, but when displayed, they seemed to lighten her face even more, as if they could cheer the beholder. She was dressed entirely in black, with high-top sneakers, ripped pants and a T-shirt under her also black overcoat (which was not part of the women's uniform).
Fenrir cleared his throat.
"So what the hell were you guys doing there? And why the black uniforms? Hey, how unfair, they're way more stylish than the blue ones."
"They are not?" Katy gave a short laugh, "That's because these are the uniforms for the night shift students."
"I didn't even know there was a night shift here."
"Of course not, yesterday that shrew coordinator wanted to start classes on the first day, the night shift students didn't follow these recommendations, so we're not going to classes during the first days."
"And why is there a night shift?"
"Oh, don't you know? Vampires, wolfs, and I know what a great deal of creatures we have."
"Vampires? Okay, I was going to ask you if you were kidding, but at this point nothing surprises me anymore."
"After all, we follow rules here, we have to if we don't want this to turn into chaos."
"Vampires on the night shift, what anime have I seen this before?" Fenrir wondered with his finger on his chin.
"Hey boy, pay attention" Katy asked to Fenrir
"I know, 'Vampire Knight'! Wow, yeah, it's pretty close, very similar!" Fenrir smiled at the memory.
"Fenrir, seriously, be careful. There are really dangerous things around here, don't think they'll care that much about your safety. There are haunted places in this academy. Really. There are nocturnal creatures and delinquents who don't mind intimidating the weakest. There are vampires who love to brag about being, they love to humiliate people, newbies like you are perfect victims."
Fenrir smiled.
"Thanks for the concern, Katy, but why should I fear vampires if I'm the wolf?" He flashed a faint smile "the Black Wolf, the Night Wolf."
