Power Thieves - (Fenrir)

1432 Words
The little girl was right. Deep down, Fenrir wanted that power, to be much more than an otaku student, but despite his false carefree attitude, the truth is that he was scared. He saw what powers others acquired. Arthur was chosen by the tough stone, Ethan by the enlightened powers of light, Jack was the chosen one of the fiery fire, Miguel, for the calm logic of the water, Sam was blessed by the weightlessness of the wind, but he... Fenrir was marked by the powers of darkness, and now he felt something dark inside him, something he preferred to keep dormant under the guise of a sloppy young man. He felt there was an evil wolf inside him, about to break out of his chains and devour his watchful mind and then, after that, nothing could stop the wildness that would come from that. "We have to get back to where our colleagues are before the bad guys arrive," Gwendy said, no smiles this time. "We have to do this" Ethan said, with the haughtiness of a leader. " This power has been entrusted to us for a reason, we cannot shirk responsibility." Somehow, Fenrir knew that Ethan was right, he always felt like a fool when he ran away instead of facing his responsibilities, but... was that really his responsibility? "What do you mean, scared little boy?" Whispered the wolf chained to his mind, in a husky malevolent voice. "wasn't that everything you've always wanted? Power for others to stop seeing you as a little boy who needs protection? Power to assert your will and crush those who get in your way? Now is the time. Take what is yours and never fear again! Above all, never fear your true nature!" "Fenrir? Are you alright?" Ethan asked worriedly, touching his shoulder gently. "I'm fine" Fenrir replied grimly. The boys then made their way back. They talked about their powers like it was just a video-game. Fenrir remained silent on the way. When they crossed the bridge, they heard screams coming from the inn where the students were staying. The six looked at each other and then ran towards the inn. The place was full of goblins, all of them carrying short swords. Among them was a hobgoblin leading the charge, carrying an axe, a goblin sorcerer casting fire spells and two big bugbears with wooden clubs. Fenrir and the others stared at it for a while without much reaction. "Boys, beware, now the battle is really serious and you are at risk of death" Gwendy warned. " As for me, I'll hide there, so good luck". The girl ran and hid somewhere. Aren't you supposed to be a goddess or something? Fenrir asked for himself, watching the girl hide. "We need to organize ourselves into a plan" said Ethan, but Arthur just screamed: "I get the big ones! AAAAAH!" Then he went forward like a madman screaming. "That... i***t!" Ethan was astonished. "Well, well, I still have so much fire to burn!" Jack advanced without any plan as well, and then everyone else went into combat, including Fenrir. Fenrir focused the power of his magic on his right hand and tensed it as if he were about to cast something. A dark energy was taking shape in the boy's hand, it took the form of a small spear, of black energy and a purplish aura. "ECLIPSE HARPOON!!!" The small spear of dark energy shot like an arrow at the enemies, cutting off the sound in the air and leaving a trail of darkness as it passed. Some goblins were hit, the others looked at Fenrir snarling and rushed forward at him. The fight followed. Everything was very fast. Fenrir beat down one goblin, but soon another took the place of the one who had been defeated. They kept coming, they were like plagues, flies around a corpse. After the tenth goblin, Fenrir stopped counting and his body began to show signs of fatigue. Arthur and Jack were fighting the bugbears, but they were having a hard time. Ethan was trying to fight the hobgoblin, Sam and Miguel were also fighting the goblin horde. Sam was hit by a spark of fire launched by the goblinoid sorcerer. The magic hit him in the back, he screamed in pain and fell to the ground. Miguel tried to react to the sorcerer, but he was surrounded by little monsters that tried to kill him. Fenrir tried to hit the sorcerer with his technique, but the sorcerer created a magical barrier that protected him from the attack. Now the sorcerer's attention was on Fenrir. He conjured magic words and spheres of electric energy heading towards Fenrir. The boy dodged the magical attacks and the goblins that surrounded him with leaps and acrobatics. As agile as a feline, he advanced against the sorcerer, he fired his magic once more and once again the goblin caster created his defense. "That's it", Fenrir thought, "he has a defenseless deficit of nearly ten seconds after he casts that magic shield". The boy smirked and continued advancing. In the meantime, Fenrir saw other people fighting the goblins, but could not see their features in the heat of battle. All he could make out was what a girl wearing a broad-brimmed beach hat must be, and a guy with a hooded coat. Who were they? Fenrir couldn't say, but he would say 'thanks' later. A goblin jumped at him brandishing his short sword. Fenrir dodged and countered with a semi-rotating kick, he took the sword and dodged one of the energy spheres hurled at him with a roll. Suddenly, after he continued to advance, sword in his left hand, he threw his technique once more at the sorcerer, who again blocked it with magic, but this time the boy was ready, the sorcerer's defenseless seconds began and Fenrir took advantage of them to attack with his sword quickly, slashing at the little monster's neck, who squeaked and fell to the ground, dying. The spellcaster was dead, but the battle was nowhere near over. Fenrir was soon surrounded by more goblins and his body was already getting heavy with fatigue. Ethan had difficulties against the hobgoblin and Arthur and Jack seemed to take a beating from the bugbears. When things seemed to get too complicated, other young people emerged with amazing skills. A girl with a sword cut the air and screamed "HALF MOON CUT!!" and a blast of light went out of the movement, splitting one of the bugbears in two. A boy who accompanied her, waved his hands and yelled "MIDNIGHT CHAINS!" and then a dark energy came out of his hands and chained the remaining bugbear. In the next moment, the sword girl killed the monster with a lunge. Fenrir heard an earth tremor, caused by one of these guys who arrived. The guy stomped the ground hard and screamed "STALAGMITE SEQUENCE!" and sharp rocks grew out of the ground, hitting the hobgoblin who was fighting Ethan, who dodged the attack or else he would also be hit. In the next moment, another young man ripped the hobgoblin's head off with a simple kick. Finding themselves without their leaders and at an apparent disadvantage, the little goblins tried to retreat but they were mercilessly slaughtered by those mighty new fighters. Impressed by the display of those mysterious fighters, but being tired and tired, Fenrir and his friends regrouped, some leaning on each other from their wounds. Fenrir noticed that none of those new fighters were the girl in the beach hat or the guy in the hood, they were others, all of those new young warriors wore a kind of black uniform with an eagle coat of arms on the chest. Below the arms was a patch embroidered that read "Third Class". "We don't know who you guys are, but well, thanks" Jack thanked them. "My most sincere thanks, beautiful miss", Ethan thanked approaching the girl with the sword, he would try to hold and kiss her hand, but the girl in a quick movement pulled the sword and hit the boy's stomach with the hilt of the weapon, for a fleeting moment the boys chuckled comically, but only until the next moment, where the girl with a superior look pointed the tip of her sword at Ethan's chest with the boy still on the ground. She then said in an icy, arrogant voice: "You all are accused of thieving the power crystals. The punishment for this crime is death."
