The first member of the brotherhood had been defeated. Bel prepared to go into the fight, but Wuprax had other plans.
"I will fight the other seytanis who guard the bombs, you and Bela go with Sam." He said.
"But Commander, are you alone going to face three fights in a row? It's dangerous..." Bel tried to argue.
"Do as I order, Sergeant! I am prepared for this." Wuprax said adamantly.
Reluctantly, Bel followed orders. So, Bel and Bela, riding griffins, gave Polo and Sam a ride, while Darius was taken by a third guy, a mysterious elf sorcerer named Marfalcon, who was going to help with the Glas Island Support Stone situation. They headed for the Glas Island in order to resolve the entire situation. Soaring through the skies above even the clouds, Sam and his allies were heading over the floating islands of Fearann Ard, when other rangers emerged on winged horses, riding pegasus. On their badges they bore the symbol of their troop, a white horse's head with green wings and a silver background, they were the pegasus riders, the air patrols of Isle Glas and Glas City.
Altogether there were two.
"Hold on!" Shouted one of them, "Where do you think you're going, Gryphon knights of Isle Gorm? The islands of Fearann Ard are all allies and follow the course of the same political system, but you still can't enter our air territory that way!"
"Is it you Batrakhan?" Bel asked, "Forgive us, but this is an emergency! Our islands are in danger, all because of the Brotherhood of Liberation, we don't have much time!"
"What he says is true" the mysterious elf sorcerer, Marfalcon spoke in a solemn voice, though loud enough to be heard loud and clear, "and if you don't let us through, many innocent people on Isle Gorm may die, but the worst of the consequences will suffer Glas Island, it will fall from the skies and fall right on top of the Lightland metropolis, tens of thousands of people will die."
Batrakhan still looked reluctant.
"If you don't believe us, you fool, then follow us and you will see that we do more than our duty to save these proud people of Glas Isle."
"Very well then, with you we will go!" Batrakhan spoke haughtily and they did so. Thus, griffin riders and pegasus riders flew side by side and headed towards the Plateau of Green Winds, where the Glas Island Support Stone was located.
In the distance, Sam could already see a monolith glowing with mystical energy in a turquoise color, while a few figures stood close to her, in all, three people standing, about five people down. When they got there, they saw some seytanis, the fallen people were Glas rangers, as well as some pegasus were also dead.
"We warn you! We warn you, Batrakhan! Look it's Makallian, the leader of the brotherhood!" Bel yelled before Batrakhan's pegasus flew into the air at the griffin where Bel was riding alongside Sam, Bel and her griffin barely managed to escape, "hey, what are you doing?!"
"We already knew all this, you fool, stop meddling where you're not welcome!" Batrakhan shouted at Bel.
"He is a traitor, Bel, he has betrayed his own people!" Bela screamed in disgust.
"Batrakhan, you bastard! I considered you an exemplary ranger!"
"It's other times now, young man, other times!"
"Sam, we have to go!" Darius shouted to the chosen one, "Bel and Bela can't face the Glas rangers while carrying us, they need as little weight as possible! Polo, Marfalcon, let's go down, we need to stop Makallian and his brotherhood!" Saying this, Darius jumped off the griffin towards the plateau. Darius once again jumped through the air, Sam jumped and could only do a double jump, unlike the other that jumped as he wanted through the air. Polo and Marfalcon descended on the griffins.
"So Wuprax didn't do what I asked," said one of the seytanis, "as expected." This guy's aura was intimidating, he had twisted horns and blood red skin, his eyes sparkled a cobalt blue color and he was quite tall, wearing robes and loose clothing.
On his side were two more guys of the same race, one of them with a very dark blue skin and eyes glowing bright yellow, his horns were twisted to the back of his head and he wore clothes similar to a wizard. The other was a huge man like a buffalo, his horns pointed upwards, his skin was a deep purple and his eyes glowed red, he wore armor like a warrior.
"The red-skinned one is Makallian, the brotherhood's ultimate leader," said Marfalcon, "the blue-skinned one is Bode, he's a skilled arcanist, the big one is Ganon, legend has it that he killed a hundred men alone in a single battle. They are the centerpieces of the brotherhood, be careful."
"They broke the deal, Bode," Ganon barked, "just deactivate the Stone of Support at once and make them pay for their arrogance!"
Makallian, however, gestured for them to wait.
"Don't you smell that? That sweet smell that turns out to be repulsive to our race?" The brotherhood leader sniffed the air, "that smell... of those celestials... and it comes... of that boy!" Makallian pointed at Sam.
"Yes Great Leader, now that you mention it, I can smell that cloyingly sweet smell" Bode said, "that boy really stinks of celestials."
"What's your name, boy?" Makallian asked with revulsion in his voice.
"Samiel" Sam replied with conviction.
"Why? Why do I smell celestial coming from you?"
"Do you want to know why? I'll tell you why" Sam took three steps forward.
"Sam, no." Darius said, but Sam ignored him.
"You must smell my power! I am the chosen one of the wind! I am one of the Six Warriors!"
"Six Warriors? Sweks Hyewds? I see, so is that it?" Makallian's eyes sparkled even more intensely, with malice and fury, "in that case I'll finish you personally! Bode, Ganon, take care of the other two, the chosen one is mine!" Makallian then turned his hands and moved his fingers as if he were manipulating some kind of staff and in the next moment a weapon appeared in his hands, a very stylish and personalized scythe in a hellish style.
A battle broke out on the plateau, while Bel and Bela still battled in the skies, Polo and Darius received the mighty and brutal Ganon, and the two sorcerers, Marfalcon and Bode, dueled with blasts of magic. As for Sam, he and Makallian charged against each other.
"WIND BLAST!!" Sam ranted firing his magic attack, in which Makallian very agilely just spun his scythe and cut off Sam's wind attack, which was astonished. Sam once again lashed out with his gust of wind, but Makallian appeared to be a dancer with a scythe blade and moved with grace and precision as he cut through the winds as if it were something solid and then the two finally came face to face, Sam he unsheathed a sword he had with him, but... he wasn't such a good swordsman, he just to get by.
A contest of blades started, Sam found himself with a lot of difficulties and Makallian barely made any space.
"Is that all the famous and legendary Six Warriors are capable of doing? Your career will be very short, young Samiel."
Makallian began to move more precisely and then... Sam was overwhelmed. In a short time and with ease, Makallian disarmed him, the next moment the seytãni swung his scythe and would have hit Sam in the neck cutting off his head, but the boy was quick to think and dodged using impulses of his wind magic, "thanks Katrina, I learned this move by watching you" the boy thought, Sam then again used a boost with magic to get further away from Makallian, trying to buy time to think about something to do, which the brotherhood leader didn't even make an effort to follow.
"You are not alone in controlling the dictates of magic, young Samiel. Try this! BLUE LIGHTNING!!!" And with an open palm Makallian fired a bolt of energy at Sam, who still thought about dodging, but the magic was faster and hit him full in the chest. Sam's body was covered by bolts of electricity that completely surrounded him and caused great pain and spasms in the boy, who fell to his knees to the ground past the magical storm of pain caused by Makallian's spell. Without even giving the chosen time to compose himself, the brotherhood leader swung the blade of his scythe and a sharp blast came out of it, Sam threw himself to the side but the attack still hit him in the right shoulder and a nasty cut came into place. hit, drawing blood and nearly tearing his limb off. Sam fell, in great pain. "Your corpse will be of great use to be used as a ensign of terror to humanity and the other races allied with them. It will be a reminder of the power of the Liberation Brotherhood." Said Makallian, walking slowly towards Sam, still twirling his scythe, which occasionally glowed with arcane energy. "Die here and now, Samiel!" Makallian was about to swing his scythe again and conjure that s***h from a distance he had made earlier, but just then Bel arrived riding his griffin and blocking the attack with his sword.
"I won't let you kill one of the bastions of hope!" He yelled at Makallian. So Bel had beaten that Batrakhan guy, good, Sam thought. Bel took off and slashed at Makallian with his griffin in flights and low flyingss, a tactic that was working and was giving Bel the height advantage, for a moment Sam thought he might win, but only until Makallian ducked from one of the ranger's grazing attacks and with his scythe slashed the belly of his mount, the gryphon, right in the middle, in a surgical cut that made them both fall out of their flight and roll over the ground.
"No!" Sam yelled at the scene.
Bel rose, dazed from the fall, but still wanting to fight, he made an expression of sadness at the death of the mount and then hatred of the seytãni who had killed the griffin. Makallian then spun and swung his scythe several times and several of those slashes in the distance struck Bel, slicing him in several spots and turning him into a bloodstained red figure that fell helplessly to the ground. Furious seeing that, Sam forgot all the pain his body brought and a torrent of adrenaline invaded his body, air currents surrounded his body raising boulders and dust in the air, with that, the boy ran towards the enemy without thinking in the aftermath, insane and ready to win! The currents of wind around his body boosted his run and he moved fast as a dash.
In a cold expression, Makallian just lifted his arm and opened his hand.
"Rapture of Thunder!" The villain exclaimed in a calm voice that already seemed to know that victory was certain, a torrent of electrical discharge erupted from his hand and moved swiftly towards Sam, who by his dash speed was also quickly heading towards the attack. Unable to dodge, the boy felt the full impact of this new magic that hit him full on and caused even more pain than the previous one, after that hundreds of sparks of electricity exploded in his chest and he was thrown far, far away and started losing consciousness...
...
The air smelled of rain. Sam started to open his eyes. Only the nose to smell the wind and a blurred vision remained of Sam's senses. He didn't feel his own body, but he knew he was falling and he was falling from a very high height. That Makallian attack... that attack... threw him off the plateau, maybe even off the island! So this was how he would die? In a way, Sam wasn't desperate with the idea that he was going to die. In fact, he felt so peaceful and even embraced... embraced by the arms of the winds that encircled his body as he fell, like a mother cradles a child before sleep. That's how he felt. As if he was just about to sleep comfortably. He closed his eyes again. Maybe that was the end.
When he opened his eyes again, he felt refreshed. A light blue aura surrounded his body, and even if unconsciously, he moved limbs that extended from his back. Small appendages of light bones, muscles and feathers in a whitish color in a turquoise aura.
"What happened? The air? The winds...they...they cradle me and kept me from falling too fast?" She looked at her own back and saw her wings, "wings? Did I... get wings?" They were still small wings, not like a badass angel warrior, still more like a cute cupid or something, but still it was just really, really cool! "I don't know what Makallian did, but he thought he threw me to my death when he made me even stronger! Leaving me on the brink of death wrapped in my own element, he made me acquire a new level of power! Maybe this wave of power is not permanent, but as long as it lasts, I will fight!"
Sam flew back to the plateau. Darius and Polo still faced Ganon and Bela, having won their battle against the other pegasus rider, went to help them, Marfalcon still faced Bode and Makallian walked towards the Stone of Support, the great monolith responsible for the stability of the floating island of Glas .
"Makallian! I came back to stop you!" Sam yelled loudly at his opponent, who turned to him, looking at him with some admiration and seriousness.
"Interesting," Makallian said aloud in response, "you deserve a fair battle, Samiel, and I'm now going to even things out. You're going to slow me down a bit, but I feel like I must finish you now. Look." he started squirming and cursing. He bent over, holding his head tightly, and on his back two big lumps grew. The villain screamed in pain, until two skeletal wings came out of his back. Makallian leapt up to Sam and oddly enough, his wings held him in the air. "Both of us, face to face in a fair battle." Makallian spoke. Sam nodded in confirmation and after that Makallian lunged at him. The two began exchanging punches and kicks. Sam was hit in the face with a powerful punch from the brotherhood leader, but he had also landed a blow to the opponent's stomach. The fight continued. Sam tried a kick at Makallian, but Makallian flew higher and after dodging the attack, kicked Sam in the face. Sam was thrown back with the force of the blow and Makallian kicked the boy once more, this time in the chest. Sam then crashed to the ground. "Is this the power of the great chosen one from skies?" Makallian asked mockingly, "even though you've acquired a new level of power, it's still not enough to face me!"
Sam laughed, getting up
"No, that's not all the power of the great chosen one of skies" he spoke and jumped up quickly, so fast that Makallian's eyes couldn't follow, all he could feel was a powerful blow to his chest. Makallian screamed in pain. "THIS is the power of the great chosen of skies!" Yelled Sam in response. Sam then punched the already stunned Makallian in the face, and now he was the one crashing to the ground. "WIND BLAST!!" Sam screamed and then powerful gusts with almost the force of a tornado shot out of his hands, hitting Makallian directly.
"AAAAAH!" Makallian screamed in pain The puffs stopped. Makallian was on the ground, wounded. After a while he got up again.
"Now I see that your powers are not to be underestimated." Spoke the leader of the brotherhood.
"Give up your plans, surrender to the law. It will be better for you."
"No" then Makallian chuckled "Creatures like me don't recognize the law of men! I suppose all this power of yours won't last forever, it will drastically diminish, and then, at this point, I will kill you!"
"I'll finish you off before then."
"Will you really go?" Makallian gave a sarcastic smile that after a while appeared to be a sad smile,
"It's a curse to be the way I am. Do you know what it's like to be discriminated against just for being born that way? To be treated like garbage by everyone just for the simple sin of being born? What blame do I have for being born that way?!" Then he looked furious, proceeded to yell "HUH? WHAT BLAME DO I HAVE?" Sam remained silent and Makallian continued, "None! No blame, dammit! But even my progenitors dumped me, and then I've been kicked around by every orphanage I've been through. Who wants to be a monster's father?"
"Your actions are being those of a monster."
"I will live up to the expectations they have placed on me and those of my race. Fearann Ard is above Argia, if I destroy one, the other will also be destroyed. Of the islands of Fearann Ard, Glas is the one I detest most! The two places I hate the most, the most reeking of hypocrisy, destroyed at once!
"You can't kill innocent people in revenge on those who once treated you badly, Makallian, that's not justice or even direct revenge."
Makallian laughed.
"You're wrong if you think I do this for revenge, young Samiel, I do it to carry a message to the world, that those seytanis who still try to be good people according to the expectations of those who hate them. They don't have that obligation, free ourselves from the shackles of human expectation and above all from its fetid hypocrisy! We will free ourselves and rise up!"
Sam felt a little sorry for him, but now he couldn't do anything else. Makallian's hatred for the society that despised him was already in a fully advanced and corrosive state.
"I'm sorry for you," said the chosen one from wind, "but I can't let thousands of innocent people die."
Makallian laughed.
"Innocents? They are the real demons! I will destroy all those damned hypocrites! They will suffer the wrath of all they call the tainted! The wrath of those with the blood of hell mixed with human blood!"
"You won't move from here."
"You're not going to stop me!" Makallian took flight. From his hands he made auras of lightning and blue energy sprout. Sam focused his power on both of his hands. He felt the wind hit his face. "One of us will die today!" Makallian yelled.
"I know."
Makallian fired his energy beams at Sam, who did the same to his dangerous winds.
"RAPTURE OF THUNDER!!!"
"FURIOUS AERIAL!!!"
The energies collided with a huge noise, which was heard for miles. It sounded like mighty thunder. Lightning and wind spread, the battle was a storm without water. Makallian's magic proved to be more offensive, as the lightnings were closer to Sam than to him.
"You will die, chosen one!" Yelled Makallian, veins bulging in his face.
Sam could barely speak. He felt like he held a ton. Even in the strong winds he was sweating and the veins were visible on his face and forehead. He coped with difficulties. Every now and then Sam would make Makallian's rays move away, but after a while the fight returned to the same situation. Suddenly the sense of heaviness Sam felt doubled. He felt a chill down his spine and realized what was happening. It was what Makallian had said before, that sudden surge of power was beginning to pass. The lightning came closer to the boy and was now no more than two feet away.
"Sam, get it!" Darius yelled at his friend, he, Polo and Bela looked hurt and tired, but they were victorious. Marfalcon had also defeated Bode, but one of his arms was destroyed. "Sam, you can't give up! We're counting on you!"
"Sam!" Shouted a woman's voice. Sam knew who it was. Bela. "Please" she pleaded with her eyes bright with tears, Sam never imagined he would see her like this, the situation must have been really critical, "we are all counting on you! Gorm, Glas, Fearann Ard and even Argia are counting on you!"
"Don't listen to them boy, you're on the edge" Makallian yelled to Sam, "don't take the weight of the skies on your back anymore, just give up at once and be free from the bonds of fate!"
But seeing Darius, Polo, and even Bela appealing like that made Sam gather strength and remember what he was fighting for. It was true. Everyone counted on him. Abo, Bel, Bela, Boa, his cousin Katrina and his friends who weren't there, and also thousands of other lives he didn't even know who wouldn't thank him for it. But he was a HERO, and heroes do this kind of thing. The aura that hovered around him increased tenfold in size, the force of his winds flared with power, Sam's sense of heaviness diminished, becoming slight almost non-existent. Makallian cursed as his end approached. Sam's winds joined Makallian's lightnings thunderbolts and swung at him, hitting him with all their might. An explosion was made of this union and the seytãni was involved in it. Makallian's terrible screams were drowned out by the huge noise of the explosion of magical power. Sam flew some difficulty to where Makallian was in the middle of a huge crater that the force of the explosion had caused. He was beginning to feel the adverse effects of the whole wave of power that had invaded him and which he had used to exhaustion.
"It didn't have to be like this," Sam breathed out to the fallen enemy.
"I didn't want to die any other way. Remember kid, it's better to die fighting and hated, than cornered and ignored." The tainted one spoke with difficulty.
"Where does so much hate come from, Makallian?"
"The hatred received is transfigured into the hatred returned. Years of being treated like an outcast, like garbage. I was able to meet several seytanis and even men of other races who felt rejected by the farce of society..." he tried to suck in a breath . His condition was pitiful and Sam couldn't help but feel sorry for "If you don't fit society you get chewed up and spit out by it. All those lords… those nobles… those priests. They all had to pay!" a trickle of tear ran down his face, his voice cracked with every word he said "kill him, they said. Kill the descendant of the demons, the descendant of the gorgof's. Stone him, he has no...feelings...maybe I was the descendant of some gorgof devil, because I lived in hell!" Sam didn't know what to say. The man smiled at him through blood-red teeth "you're a good boy. You'll be a man of bounties. I wish you, chosen one of the wind, had come earlier" coughed and tried desperately to speak one last sentence, sucking the rest of oxygen he had left. He raised his hand to Sam, in appeal "I beg you, don't let any other child go through what I've been through. Don't let it, hero!" Makallian's gaze started to lose focus and his hand dropped, strangely Makallian chuckled "the message from the brotherhood, Sam, has yet to be delivered."
"What? What are you talking about? Answer!"
"In... fact there was... a circle of magic here, on the Stone of Support, linked to the bombs that were on Isle Gorm and in fact the Stone would be... deactivated if the bombs were also, but that was just one of the ways... to... ." the seytãni coughed blood, "one of the ways... to... deliver the message... to... to... the other... was connected to m-my heart... when my... m-my life slips away... when my heart stops beating... then the stone will be shattered... and, Sam... there's no way to stop this anymore, my life has no salvation... and nor that of the inhabitants of Glas and Argia... they are all condemned" he watched the sky, his gaze vacant, empty and colorless, "to die looking at the sky I hate... a punishing way to die..." From his eyes, tears welled up as blood poured out of his mouth. Makallian, the leader of the Liberation Brotherhood, was now dead.
Then a stone cracking noise was heard, Sam and the others watched the monolith closely, all very fearful... then the worst happened... the stone shattered into several pieces! Everyone gaped and the entire structure of the floating stone island called Glas began to shake... it was only a matter of time before everything collapsed and then the pieces and inhabitants of Glas fell on the unsuspecting inhabitants of Lightland, capital of the kingdom of Argia.
"We are doomed!" Marfalcon cried out in despair, "the deactivation of the stone itself was a tragedy, but the destruction? There is no way, we have to get out of here!"
"No! There has to be a way!" Sam yelled in denial.
"A way? A way? The way we will if we stay here is to die!"
"There has to be a way! You are the expert wizard, think of something!"
"Okay, I could try to repair the stone, only the surface was destroyed, but it would still take me maybe half an hour if I was healthy, in the condition I'm in now, an hour or more! I would still need an exorbitant amount of power wind magical here on the surface, and another huge amount to keep the rock under the island stable. Admit it, kid, there's no way, even if you're one of the Six Warriors!"
"Polo, Darius, you two stay here and feed the wind power of the surface stone, as for me I will fly under the island and feed the submerged stone."
"Are you crazy, Sam? Are you out of your mind? Me and Polo used a lot of magic power, feeding the stone from the surface...yes, we could still achieve that with a lot of effort, but you? You tried too hard to sustain the submerse stone! The amount of power for that is gigantic! It would be like trying to sustain a damn plane! For a hour or even more!"
"Just do your part, I'll do mine." Darius looked at Sam with mute admiration, even though what the chosen one was proposing was boundless insanity. Sam, without waiting for answers, flew swiftly to the underside of the huge floating stone island... Underneath the island were structures of sharp stones, stalactites, and jagged rocks, among them one glowing prominently, a huge spike gleaming in turquoise energy, right in the middle of the island, as if it were connected directly to the rock up there on the plateau. It was a beautiful sight, and perhaps it would be Sam's last… he remembered Polo's words when they fought that time, that if he were to choose a place to have his last sight before death, it would be Fearann Ard. Without thinking too much, the young hero concentrated all the power he had, all the rest of the power he had, and began to transfer it to the huge glowing monolith. Instantly the boy felt that his body was making an effort far beyond human, he felt as if his muscles were going to tear, his bones were going to be pulverized, his organs were going to explode in bloodstains and his heart was about to burst. He didn't even know how he stayed there, and he'd hardly remember it later, but sure enough, all that kept him there was his spirit.
...
Sam tried to open his eyes, but it was too light.
"Sam? Are you okay?" It was Katrina's voice.
He moaned. The boy realized that he was in a different voice, more... delicate. He tried to look down and then complained:
"Oh no, not again!" When he saw that his body had changed again and he had breasts again.
"If you must know, I think you've turned into a pretty girl." Praised Katrina rather mockingly.
"Very funny!" Sam complained. His body was better, but it still hurt very, very much.
"What happened?"
"Well, apparently you saved Glas Isle and even defeated the terrible Makallian. You've become a hero, little cousin!"
"Although I have bad news that you won't get much recognition for it." Bela spoke from over there, Sam hadn't noticed her before, but she was standing by the window, "The corrupts rulers of Isle Glas don't want to leak information about their security breaches and corruption of their troops, so... things will go stay under the covers. I'm sorry, Sam, you deserved so much more."
"It's okay, I'm glad everything turned out okay after all."
"Another thing, despite your claiming to be one of the Six Warriors, Darius said it was best to keep this information a secret for now. Me, Marfalcon and Bel promised to keep it a secret."
"Bel? Is he okay? He saved my life."
"Yes, he is and he was very proud of you."
"I am happy with that."
"Sam, for what you've done, you deserved so much more, however, Gorm's troop recognizes your worth and you'll earn a Medal of Honor, as will your companions. Besides...Mom is cooking a lot more than special dinner in your honor, so when you've recovered... let's party a lot!" Bella smiled and then placed a friendly, tender kiss on his forehead, as Sam would never have imagined she could.
