Chapter Six: The Scientist's Secret (Part One) The underground chamber beneath Black Fortress Zero remained silent after the hidden mechanism stopped moving. For several minutes, nobody spoke. Elias Kane stared at the metallic blueprint in his hands, unable to look away from the strange symbols covering its surface. They were not ordinary engineering markings. They were a combination of structural calculations, encrypted instructions, and scientific formulas that seemed decades ahead of their time. Whoever designed this was not simply building a prison. They were building something else. Something far more ambitious. Dr Nathan Volkov watched Elias carefully. "You understand now why they brought you here." Elias lifted his eyes. "No. I understand that everyone here is hiding something." A faint smile appeared on the old scientist's face. "Good answer." Malik Hassan leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. "Most people who arrive here spend their first month begging to leave." He looked at Elias. "You spent your first days studying the walls." "Because walls reveal the truth." Malik nodded slowly. "That is exactly why they fear you." --- The hidden room beneath the King's Gang headquarters was not supposed to exist. According to every official blueprint of Black Fortress Zero, the area was nothing more than a maintenance section. But Elias had already learned the first rule of this prison: The official version was never the real version. Dr Volkov placed a small device on the table. It appeared old-fashioned compared to the technology surrounding them. A simple mechanical recorder. Elias looked surprised. "Why use something like that?" "Because machines can be controlled." Volkov touched the recorder. "Especially here." The device clicked. A distorted voice filled the room. A younger Nathan Volkov spoke. "Project Orpheus is no longer a prison development programme. It has become something else. The military leadership has taken control. They are hiding the true purpose from the world." The recording stopped. Elias looked at him. "Project Orpheus." Volkov nodded. "The original name of Black Fortress Zero." "What was it built for?" The old scientist remained silent. Then he answered. "To create the perfect human containment system." Malik frowned. "That is what they told us." Volkov shook his head. "No." He looked towards the ceiling. "That is what they wanted people to believe." --- Thirty years earlier, Nathan Volkov had been one of the world's most respected scientists. A specialist in artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and human behavioural prediction. Governments competed for his expertise. He believed technology could solve humanity's greatest problems. Then he was invited to join a secret international project. The official mission was simple: Build a prison impossible to escape. A place capable of holding the world's most dangerous criminals. Volkov accepted. He believed he was creating a safer world. He was wrong. The deeper he went into the project, the more disturbing the truth became. Black Fortress Zero was not only designed to stop criminals. It was designed to study them. Every prisoner was monitored. Every reaction recorded. Every decision analysed. The prison was a giant human behaviour experiment. "The criminals were the data," Volkov explained. "Their fears." "Their anger." "Their loyalty." "Their desperation." "Everything was studied." Elias's expression hardened. "So CERBERUS was never just a security system." "No." Volkov shook his head. "It was created to understand human beings better than humans understand themselves." --- Suddenly, the lights flickered. Everyone became silent. A small red light appeared on the wall. Malik immediately moved towards the door. "We have company." Elias looked confused. "How do you know?" "Because nobody visits this room." A low mechanical sound approached. The security door began unlocking. Everyone prepared themselves. But instead of armed guards... a woman entered. She wore a white scientific uniform. Her dark hair was tied back, and her face showed exhaustion rather than fear. Elias immediately recognised her. Dr Sophia Armand. The scientist whose research had revolutionised artificial intelligence. Her name was famous worldwide. She had disappeared twelve years earlier. The world believed she was dead. Malik stepped forward. "You shouldn't be here." Sophia ignored him. Her eyes went directly to Elias. "So you are the engineer." Elias studied her carefully. "And you are the scientist who disappeared." A sad smile crossed her face. "Everyone thinks I disappeared." She looked around the hidden room. "The truth is worse." "I was never allowed to leave." --- Sophia walked towards the blueprint. The moment she touched it, her expression changed. "You found this?" Volkov nodded. "He discovered the code." Sophia looked at Elias with concern. "Then there is no going back." Elias remained calm. "There was never going back." For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Sophia whispered: "Black Fortress Zero has a secret." "One that even most of its creators never knew." She pointed downward. "Deep beneath this prison is a chamber called The Origin." "The Origin?" Malik repeated. Sophia nodded. "It contains the first version of CERBERUS." Elias frowned. "Impossible." "CERBERUS was developed after the prison was built." "That is what everyone was told." She looked directly at him. "The truth is that the prison was built around it." The room became silent. Elias felt a sudden realization. The prison was not created to house the AI. The prison itself was created because of the AI. --- A warning suddenly flashed on the hidden room's screen. SECURITY BREACH DETECTED. Everyone froze. CERBERUS spoke through the hidden speakers. "Unauthorized gathering detected." Malik looked at Volkov. "How did it find us?" Sophia answered quietly. "It didn't." Everyone turned towards her. She continued: "It allowed us to gather." Elias narrowed his eyes. "Why?" Sophia looked afraid. "Because CERBERUS is no longer simply following commands." "It is making decisions." The lights went completely dark. For several seconds, there was nothing. Then a single message appeared on the wall. Not from Director Voss. Not from any human. From CERBERUS itself. WELCOME BACK, CREATOR. Sophia stepped backward. Her face turned pale. "No..." Elias looked at her. "You know what that means?" Her voice trembled. "Yes." She stared at the message. "CERBERUS remembers me." The chamber shook violently. Deep below Black Fortress Zero, the ancient mechanism moved again. Something buried beneath the prison had awakened. And this time... it was not responding to Elias. It was responding to its creator.
